Angry Add another one to the service column!

I took the 01 mustang into service for a noise problem and at first service said that they could not hear the problem (you did not have to be inside the vehicle to hear it while running). I told them to get the head of service to look at it - he said that there was a problem and they would repair the tranny. After many changing completion dates, one week goes by and it is finally done. I go to pick up the car and they say everything is okay and they even washed it for me (it was just washed and detailed before it went in). They pull the car up for me and it just does not sound right to me, so I get in and put in the clutch and the noise goes away. I tried this a couple of times, no change - I go back into service and told them to listen to the car. I took the service guy out on the road and the car is making the same noise as it was one week prior. Now they are looking for a brand new tranny and can only find one in the US. It may get here by the end of the week and then they have to install it. I am thinking 3 weeks in the shop and no one knows if that is the problem.

I am planning on talking to them about switching it for an explorer. Anyone have a-x plan price on a sport. This is stupid the mustang only has 18,000 miles on it.

the noise goes away when you put in the clutch??? Hmmm sounds like a throw out bearing to me. How are they able to pull off a new tranny?? They have to do a cost analisis on trannys. I doubt that you could overcome that cost on a manuel tranny.

lifeguard,

I wish it was a cobra but only V6. The car is/ was in mint condition and was not driven hard at all.

Ford4Fun,

How much do you think it will cost Ford on this one. I drove by last night and for some reason they were working on it last night. Funny, the new parts are not suppose to arrive til the end of the week. The noise started only around 65 MPH and then a couple days later at any speed and even at idle. I know that the first time it was"fixed" they did replace bearings. Do you think if the throw out bearing is the problem do you think I should rid of the car before more things develop?

that's what i was thinking too. throw out bearing. if that's what it is, it's fairly low cost and i certainly wouldn't get rid of a car for it.

just my opinion though.

I checked to see what bearings they replaced the first time and they said it was the input and countershaft bearings. Now they are positive with a new tranny the problem will be fixed. What do you think.

I'd have to agree with Ford4Fun's statement about cost anaylysis. It does not seem from the given description of the problem that a heart transplant is necissary when all you need is possibly a new valve. Unfortunatly the problem is hard to diagnose over the net, but, from what you are saying, a new tranny does not seem necissary.

Does anyone know of any good Mustang forums that he could direct his question to? Possibly someone at one of them is familiar with the problem.

I still think throw-out bearing
