DISH TV or DIRECTV?

I'm VERY interested in hearing what you guys and gals have to say about both DISH and DIRECTV.

I'm an AVID NFL fan and thus, I'm leaning towards DIRECTV (because they're the only one with NFL SUNDAY Ticket) but, I want to hear your experiences with both... give me the good and the bad... the pretty and the ugly.

I'm so ticked off with my cable TV provider that I'm investigating options for other service. Unfortunately, DSL isn't available in my area yet and thus, I'm going to stick through this crap with them on the internet connection but, the first chance I get to jump ship and go to DSL, I'm there.

Both Dish and Directv have GREAT deals going with rebates and multi-room systems... I just need to figure out what's best for me (besides NFL Sunday Tick).

HELP!

Thanks in advance for your opinions and suggestions.

I voted Direct TV, had it for almost 2 years already, and it's good.

I 've had Direct TV for about 8 years and it's okay. No experience with Dish Network so I can't say Yeah or Nay with that. The Sunday Ticket is really really nice. If you are a football fan there is really no question about which one to get.

When I bought my current home I had cable for a year till I could clear the trees blocking my reception. I hated the cable Co. before and it only got worse.

During very severe weather you will lose reception for a short while (when the thunderheads are super thick) but the loss seldom occurs for more than a few minutes. When the weather threatens that bad you should turn off your television anyway.

Also try to install it where you can sweep the dish off with a broom. If you get six inches of snow on it you will not get reception and you certainly don't want to be on your roof when there is snow on it. (Unless you work on Christmas Eve)

While I only use dial up because I am cheap, Direct TV has high speed hook up available but I cannot give you any empiricle advice on its quality.

Dish

I am more of a movie guy and I watch NASCAR which I can get with no problem on Dish.
The picture and sound quality from Dish is also noticible better (and I can't tell the difference in a $200.00 stereo and a $2000.00 stereo) I have friends with Direct and the picture quality mostly sucks compared to mine.

My $.02

We have had DirectTV for many years, and I will say that it is an awesome setup. We actually just got a deal on the DirectTV/Tivo combo receiver box. It was a promotional deal by DirectTV. If you have the option to get it, and are willing to pay a few extra bucks, get the Tivo combo box... it is also a slick piece of equipment. Also Rockpick, when did F150online get the poll function? I have never seen it before. Thanks a lot. Good luck in your choice. Also, I hope your new house is going well, I have seen the pictures, it looks nice.

I've had Dish for a couple years. My neighbor has DirectTV. My picture and cound are noticably better. Cost depends on what packages you choose, but they are close. I've had nothing but great support from DISH customer support.

Heres one for you.....Direct is owned by Hughes which is owned by GM. Why would a Ford guy want to get DirectTV ?

I have had DirecTV since it was launched, paid 700 bucks for my first RCA receiver. Have the TIVO unit now. Picture quality is the same as my brother in laws Dish setup, they both use the same mpeg compression so the only reason one would be better or worse is your location and signal strength. They both adjust bit rate and compression levels depending on program content. I do occasionally lose signal during big storms but other than that no complaints. The 2 companies attempted a merger but it fell through. Dish has more HDTV options currently but that is changing and only important if you have a HDTV and HDTV receiver.

Had Dish Tv for 5 years, wanted to expand to another room, cost went way up and they moved a lot of channels to other satellites requiring the user to buy a more expensive receiver. I went to cable after they gave me a great buyout offer. Offer expires in Dec so I will again be looking for the best deal.

I'm all for Direct TV.

Very limited experience with DISH. From what I've seen picture and sound seem to be about the same quality, and unless you have a really good TV I doubt you will notice the difference.

As for displays, I wasn't really impressed DISH interface/menu. I think DirectTV's menu is more pleasing to the eye. Also I think DirectTV is easier to use, but that could be because I have DirectTV and not the DISH.

I will say however, that a DirectTV box, TV, 2 different remotes and grandparents DO NOT MIX.

Yes the DirectTV remote (basic RCA one) is programable (they can't figure it out), but it has a habit of loosing it's connection with the TV and needs to be reprogrammed every so often. Minor annoyance and easily solved by getting a good remote.
