Cell phone users are the least of our worries...as a college student, I cant tell you how many times myself as well as my friends have crammed/studied on the drive to class...all while balancing a piping-hot caramel mocha in our lap, pounding a powerbar down our throats, and talking on the cell phone to the girl we slept with last night trying to convince her she was more than a one-night post hole....I call it "free-range urban multi tasking"...patent pending....
Maybe, just maybe if you studied a little more the night before instead of partying with all your friends and staying out all night, you wouldn't have to do al that while driving. Like was mentioned before, that is called time management, which most college students don't know about. I just got done with college and I used to work until 2 am everynight and had to be at school every morning at 10am, but I still made time to study and do homework.

Just hope that I am never the driver in front of you when you are doing all that while driving. Because I would be the one to slam on the brakes right in front of you and cause you to wreck that pretty little Lightning you got. And guess what, it would be all your fault, not mine.

Just kidding as I personally would never intentionally let someone hit me, but I would hit my brakes and give a scare. But there are many people out there that would do that, as they are waiting on someone to sue so they could make some money.

Just a note:

There are some of us who do not work from an office, we work from the road and our only instant form of communication is a cell phone. I may not be the most important person at my company, but when I need to get something done for a customer I need to be able to make/take the call no matter where I am.

It's called progress.

And unfortunately some people will abuse anything/right to do something.

Here are some good reasons for cell phones:

To call 911 from a remote location
To have your kids school be able to call you no matter where you are when your kid gets hurt...
To use during a catastrophe (East coast black out, sept 11, etc)
I have a very close friend that uses one every day to call his wife and kids from the front lines in Iraq (From his tank)

The 7"P'S" do not apply to the above, or to the huge improvement to our lives and the sheer convenience of having a cell phone.

I certainly know that I for one would not want to live without one.

Yes, those are good reasons to use a cell phone. They are also not uses that I listed. If those were the reasons people used their cell phones (or even if they were performing vital work functions) you would see a lot fewer people on the phone.

I agree with you a 100% on that one flafonman! I just wanted to make sure that BOTH side of cell phone use were mentioned.

I gues it is just like a regular phone. You know what I am talking about where your kid spends hours on the phone talking about nothing. It is now the modern age and now they are spending hours of worthless conversations on cell phones!

The new statistic is that more and more people are getting rid of their land-line phones in favor of only cell phones!

If you hate the two-ways just wait a month or two when Verizon Wireless gets into the act!

I suppose all those who threw stones at me also ALWAYS drive with their hands at 10 & 2, ALWAYS use turn signals AND hand signals when changing direction or lanes, NEVER perform a rolling stop at an abandoned stop sign or soon to go green red-light and are TOTALLY adverse to EVER recieving any "road head" of ANY KIND...that would be a distraction...and we CERTAINLY cant have that now can we.... I think we all screw the pooch plenty behind the wheel...we just do it in different ways...period.

You know, your absolutely right.

We're just a bunch of hypocrites.

No one really thinks about safety.

Of course "road head" of any kind rates far higher than being concerned about saftey.

I don't know how I could have been so niave.

If your driving and get a call on the cell phone then you should pull over, or not answer it...

Exactly!! Everytime that my phone rings while I am driving and when I do answer it, my driving suffers because of it. Everytime I use my cell phone in the truck, I start driving slower, swerving more and lose concentration on driving. I just simply will not answer my phone anymore while driving even though it is sitting right there beside me, because I value my truck and am not going to wreck it because I was using a cell phone.

I have a pair of Motorola 2 way radios (older style)
When wife and I go camping, we take them with us so we can stay in contact with each other when we are apart.
Like when I'm watching a DVD in the trailer, and she's in the laundry mat doing a wash.
If she needs me for anything, this way she can just holler.

The only other time we use the 2-ways is during our Xmas shopping.
We go to the mall together, and once there, we go our separate ways.
The radios are a nice way to find each other at the end of the night.
Ever try finding your significant other in a big *** mall? it's no fun!

I'm immature with the radios though, I'll follow her from a distance incognito, wait til there's a million people around her, and then burp into the mike real loud.

As far as cell phones, I have one, but don't use it much, 90% of the time it's off, I really have it in case "I" need to make a call, and not for other peoples convenience.

This is starting to sound like the anti-SUV thread I got involved in on another board.

I think the consensus was I was endangering innocent retarded children. Something like that.

I guess I agree. That would make me akin to the anti-SUV'ers though. How can that be, I'm pro-vehicle choice?

I guess we all have something that we don't like, that others do. I wouldn't actually draw a parallel between anti-Suv'ers and people annoyed by other peoples inconsiderate cell phone use. It is complaining though. There are actually lots of things that people do that annoy me. I think I'm getting old and bitter . I accept that people can pretty much do what they want.

There seems to be a lot of people (that I see each day) that are,

acting like the group of rowdy teen agers on the street corner, bandanas and the cap on backwards, pants that are ten sizes too big that the boxers don't just show, the ***** stains are visible, and of course the one pant leg rolled up, walking directly in front of and spitting at traffic or like the low riding ricer boyz with the 4" fart pipe, 24" chrome spinners, custom primer paint job and silly rap music with so much base that it causes rust to fall to the ground with each beat, and causes me to be deaf, or have some stupid gang-sta rap lyric stuck in my head, I don't know or care to know what shizzle or hizzo or nizzo means and bling sounds like something you'd hear on Tele-Tubbies...........

where was I, oh, acting like idiots. It's getting to be acceptable to be a complete dumb a$$. Why does this bother me? Because I put a lot of effort into trying not to be a dumb a$$.

To me the way a lot of people use their cell phones greatly contributes to the dumbing down of America. I don't think I'm the only one either. I'm not going to burn cell phones or the stores that sell them. I'm not going to tag or spray paint any ones cell phone. I'm just going to think, when I see people being idiots on the phone, that there are a lot of dumb a$$es out there.

So, yes I agree, this thread may resemble the anti-SUV crap. The difference is, all I'm going to do about it is complain here. I will continue in my quest to not be a dumb a$$, and try to be considerate of my fellow citizens.
