Cell phones and two ways inside stores
I have a question for you guys. What do you think about people that use their cell phones or two way radios in the stores and other public places?
This is annoying too me. I was at work today and this guy was talking to some girl on his two way radio/cell phone. He must have had the volume turned up as loud as it could possibly go because I was aout 10 feet from this guy and could hear almost every word the girl was saying. I would want my conversation to be private, not blasted out loud for everyone to hear.
And the cell phones are even worse. In the store I work at, it is very hard to get good reception inside the building, so people have to keep yelling into their phone asking the other person if they could hear them. And then they walk around aimlessly and just stand right in the middle of the isle and don't hear you if you ask them to move over so you can get through. I have even seen people walk around the store for over an hour and the cell phone never leaves their ear. What call is THAT important that you have to walk around a store for an hour talking to them?
So what do you think about this?

It's real annoying! It happends around here all the time. When people are on the phone they completely forget that they are in a public place. And the people on the phone in the car forget they are driving on a public road with the rest of the general public. Then they give me a dirty look when I go schreeching the tires by them, after they've made their way into the lane they wanted to be in but weren't paying enough attention to have been in the first place! Idiots!
It's not just in the city around here. My girl and I were out hiking one day and some woman on a mountian bike had to stop because here phone was ringing. She answers and the person calling must have asked what she was doing. She says "I'm mountian biking". My girl and I are like, you know it's bad when people have to answer the phone when they are enjoying the peace and tranquility of the wilderness.
Having said all this, I must confess that I have been on the phone while driving. If it rings I will pick it up. If it's a work call I will get my self off the road so I can talk. If it's not a work call I'll tell the person I'm driving and that I will call them back.

I don't care if they're using their phone, hell, that's what it's there for. But when it becomes a distraction to them/me, then it bothers me. I will murder someone if they use it in a thearter when I just wasted 16$ for me and my gf to watch a movie.
I use a cell phone for work and I am on it a lot in all kinds of places. BUT I am always considerate of others, I will only use it in the truck when I have my headset on, and I never ever even bring it into the movie theater, barbershop, doctors office, grandparents house, etc...
The people who talk loudly on them in public are the same morons that stop in the middle of a 65 mph highway to read a road sign!
I have said it in posts past it is called "I am the only one on the planet" syndrome.
I better stop now!

I think people just notice the inconsiderate people first. 95% of people dont talk any louder on their phones than they do to someone walking with them, & we aren't starting a "Damn people keep talking to the person next to them at stores and at work!" thread. Talking on one in the car is also the same as having someone in the passenger seat. Especially if you have an earphone. Yeah, cranked up 2-ways suck, but the average cell phone user talks at standard levels. It doesn't bother me at all. Of course, Im usually that person...lol. Besides, you haven't seen dangerous until you've seen me try to fire off text messages while driving....imagine trying to write an e-mail while at the wheel...its nuts.
Cell phone users are the least of our worries...as a college student, I cant tell you how many times myself as well as my friends have crammed/studied on the drive to class...all while balancing a piping-hot caramel mocha in our lap, pounding a powerbar down our throats, and talking on the cell phone to the girl we slept with last night trying to convince her she was more than a one-night post hole....I call it "free-range urban multi tasking"...patent pending....

You obviously haven't been in some of the places us others have been in. I'd say it's more like 50%, or less.

So when these people are talking to some one in the passenger seat they are staring out into space, looking brain dead, and seem to be unawhere that they are operating a vehicle on a public road with other vehicles? I must encounter the cell phone users that are not "average".

Enough said.

I hadn't thought of that. Great, more preoccupied people that I have to try to avoid. This is getting ridiculous.

Muti-tasking is pretty common these days. It's necessary for most of us. It's not an exuse to endanger fellow motorists, or annoy others in public places. It's not a game out there. It's the "I'll do whatever I want" attitude that causes people to be so inconsiderate. I think a better solution to this"free-range urban multi-tasking" would be to learn time management.
Contrary to what some might believe, it's not ok. That's not just what I think, it's the reason laws, have been, and need to be enacted. People cannot do whatever they want, if what they want to do is harrassing or a danger to others.

Cell phones have allowed people to avoid being responsible. Before you fire up your flamethrowers please consider the following "reasons" for using your phone:
"I use it to get directions."
You actually left your home or business without knowing where you were going?
"I use it for business."
No matter how important you are within your organization your ability to be effective is greatly reduced while driving or shopping at WalMart.
"I use it to set up meetings."
So is it you or your party who is inconsiderate enough not to be in the appointed place at the appropriate time?
"I want to make sure I get everything at the store"
It is called a list. Make one. Use one.
"I use it to keep in touch with the office and kids."
Safely piloting a 2 ton vehicle at speeds up to 70 mph is apparently not important enough to require your full attention?
As for "multi-tasking". It is just a fancy way of saying, "Instead of doing one thing well I did 3 things half-a$$ed." Application of the 7 P Principle will allow you to allocate resources and time in an appropriate manner. For those of you who don't know the 7 P's:
Prior Proper Planning Prevents **** Poor Performance.
