What's Crappening??
What's going on homies?
Just got back from summer vacation, and it was the worst one ever!.
We went camping to Bay of Fundy, Halifax, and then Prince Edward Island, but trip was extremely miserable because wife & I were sick with pneumonia.
3 weeks of camping and being sicker than a dog is no fun, we stayed because we thought we could get through it, but no such luck.
Arrived home yesterday to find my pc fried! (I'm using my wife's now and it's a total pos, barely works and very slow) AMD 366.
I was so looking forward to getting home, and getting on MY pc at the comfy desk I have, but oh no! Now I'm in the guestroom using this slow pos, and there's nowhere to put my knees, haha, the cd drive is busted on this, so I can't even show the cool pics I took.
During our trip we found a track session in progress (by total accident) so I convinced wifey to let me take a couple of runs while she watched.
Anyways, I was pretty nervous because I never been to a track before, and this place had a ton of fast cars.
The people were really friendly though and made me feel at home.
The time slips are in the glove box, but I can remember I only had time for 2 passes, first one I got a 16.844, and 2nd one I ran a 16.800
Is this good for my truck?
I had a full tank of gas, hitch receiver was in place (
), and the bed was loaded with camping stuff because we were driving home the next day.
Also my ARE hard cover was on, 110 pounds.
The only person in the entire field who I managed to get a better time against was this 8 year old girl who was driving one of those kiddies racing cars, the long silver ones, she hit the 1/4 at 35 Mph, and I hit it at 80
I gotta tell you, the racing thing was a big rush, now I can understand what the rage is about.
Anyways, just wanted to say hello, and that it's good to be back.
Regards'
Habibi

Welcome back to civilazation Habibi!
Too bad your vacation turned sour, I enjoyed my best vacation ever this year.
The Bay of Fundy Sounds familiar isn't that the place in the Guiness book of records for the biggest difference in tide heights or sumthin like that?
And you still got a couple of trips down the 1/4 mile too. I cant wait to try that myself I just know that I'm going to break into the teens after my ventshade mod!
I really hope that you & the wife feel better though. Good luck.

Now about that crappy vacation.
Sorry to hear that you were both sick, but it's good you tried to make the best of it. I am surprised the Track let you make a run with all that stuff in the bed. Usually they make you take it all out. But I'd say that with all your stuff, the 16.8 is pretty good. I've seen quite a few 18 second cars (yes cars, which means lighter, so they have no excuse) making runs, so be proud.
CD/RW's are only about $20 at office max (always seem to be on sale for $10 to $20 after rebate, so why pay $40 for only a CDrom?) so pop one in your wifes drive, and upload some pics.

Welcome home, Habibi !!
Sorry to hear about your vacation. Hope you are feeling better now.
What's wrong with your PC ? I might be able to help with parts, if you know what you need. (I have a bunch of parts)
Let me know if I can help...

Thanks for the welcome
Le Pew, yes, Bay of Fundy has the highest tides in the world, we went to this place called "The Hopewell Rocks", really cool to see, when the tide is out, you go walking around on the ocean floor, and there's all these gigantic flower pot statues sticking out of the ground, when the tide is in, they look like little islands.
Andthensometoo,
Thanks for the how-to, that worked perfectly.
B-Man,
What's wrong with the computer?
Wish I knew, this is what happened:
Before I left 3 weeks ago, I shut everything down, yesterday when I arrived home, I turned the pc on, everything fired up normally, but my wireless mouse didn't work, so I changed the batteries, and still had no mouse.
So, I rebooted hoping this would fix it, but instead, nothing showed on the monitor when I turned it back on.
I did this several times, and nothing changed.
I even tried a different monitor, but this didn't help.
So, I took it to this computer guy, and he said my processor and motherboard probably needed replacing. I was suspicious at this, because he said this before he even opened up my case.
I'm waiting for Tue, when a friend of mine can check it out and tell me what's wrong. Once I know what I need, I'll let you know.
Regards

Just shutting your PC down isn't enough. I have everything plugged into a power surge strip. They are very handy. When a storm is comming or I leave on vacation, I unplug the power surge strip from the wall, which removes all PC related items from any source of electricity all at once.
Some times PC repair people BS you because they think you don't know anything, but sometimes they see a lot of one peticular thing, and can make an educated guess that you have the same problem. ie The Blackout of 2003.
If your location was affected, I also wouldn't eat any food in your fridge if I were you. Freezer food would be OK for up to two days. after that . . .

My computer is fixed, and it's working perfectly!
Here's what happoened:
When I got home from holidays, it crapped out on me and wouldnt turn on.
So I took it to one of those "IT/Computers guys" from an ad I saw in the newspaper.
The guy says I needed a new processor, and motherboard, and he could fix everything for 700 bucks, and get me a nice upgrade at the same time.
So naturally I was suspicious, and told him I would take my pc home, and think about it, I told him to call me with the total price.
I really wanted my friend to see it, and get his opinion.
So I took it to my buddy yesterday, he cleaned the dust out of the fan, and now it works perfect.
Apparently, the dust was causing the fan to turn slowly, and as a result, it would shut off.
I'm really happy to be sitting at my comfy desk, using MY computer, but it burns my *** that everyone out there tries to screw you over every chance they get.
If I would've agreed to let the first guy "fix" it, I would've been out $700.
Are there no honest people left out there anymore?

Welcome back.
Just fixed 2 HP computers(600 and 733 mhz) for the same thing. They're about 4 years old. The fan in the power supply goes out and the system shuts down when it overheats. Since I'm cheap when it comes to the kids computers I simply took the power supply out and removed the fan. This gives me access to the sticker on the back of it which I peel off and re-oil the fan bearing which frees that up. I then put the sticker back and reassemble.
Good as an old computer can be.
