Thumbs down Chevy SS are all over!

I went to the mall with a few friends to get some food and went to go park in the back of the lot as usual. Well parking right behind me was a Chevy SS. When I came out there was another one parked right next to it. These things are all over the place, only a matter of time before I line up with one

"Recipe For excess, Chevy's 395-HP Pickup would run with the best, Chevrolet Silverado SS Concept"

page 24, Autoweek August 18, 2003.

Powertrain: 6.0 liter, 395-hp, 409-lb-ft; rwd, six-speed manual. Curb weight: 4190, 0 to 60: 6.0 seconds (est.)

Doesn't sound like much of a challenge to me.

Just out of curiosity, what happens when a guy decides to slap a blower on one of dem SS's? Will there be a challenge then?

I should really point out that the article I am refering to is on the Concept SS. It is not in production yet. The ones we see above are the current production model, boasting 345 hp. There aren't any torque ratings in this article.

approx. 600lbs of dry weight is a considerable dif, too.

Page 23 - "Serious Hammer" - Mallett Chevrolet Tahoe.

This should give us an idea.

Same power plant, 6.0 litre, 510 hp, 562 lb ft supercharged V8, four speed auto, curb weight 4828, 0 - 60 in 5 seconds (mfr.)

How about them *****.

At that point they're fairly close but still a little slower. They run low to mid 15's stock and here's the best time I've seen for one with a Magnacharger and intercooler:

Temps were in the low 70’s
10:00 AM 13.92@93
10:15 AM 14.306@92.43
10:36 AM 14.932@79.12
cooled off
11:53 AM 14.056@95.17

The only place I've seen them is at the dealerships, every chevy dealer has 2 on their lot at least around here. Probably cause of the hefty price tag. I can't wait to line up with one

I did see a real ugly one on the street, it was blue and had checkered flags on the side and was a indy 500 pace truck model ??

They are a nice truck, I'll give it that. However, for about $12,000 (Cnd $) more than I paid for my Lightning, I think I got a heck of a better deal! I can deal with not having AWD.

Prices are way out of touch.

The SS is not my favorite but rest assured someone will build a monster out of it, a twin turbo setup, some light head work a clean exhaust, a few bolt ons and a solid tune, 600-700 hp with 7-9psi, build the motor and turn up the wick on the boost and a 1000hp is within reach with all wheel drive. I can tollerate alot for a 1000hp.

We had a local SS owner meeting up with us at the track a few months ago. He slapped on a Magnacharger setup using whipple or some ****, intercooler and best he could muster was a 14.9 at 9? something mph.

Must not of been set up properly and tuned very well to only get those kind of numbers. Anybody can bolt a blower on, but you still need to know how to set the truck up properly.

You can bolt on whatever you want, those trucks will not be a threat in generall ever.
I actually think they look ok, but i look at ten of them a day at the chevy dealer across the street, the same ten.
Our gm rep drives one and will not even tell you he drives it
You would have to be 50+ grand in to run decent#s
Does a heavily modded HD sound better now.
SEE YA!

First problem with those trucks is they are high compression. With 6 PSI of boost, they are already on the ragged edge. They also lack the strength of our rearend and tranny.
