Question Great Presidential quotes

Is it just me or have the Great Presidential quotes been in a downward spiral?

"We have nothing to fear but fear itself."
"The Buck Stops Here."
"America is best described by one word, freedom."
"Ask not what your Country can do for you..."
"I shall not seek, and I will not accept,..."
"I am not a crook."
"I am a Ford, not a Lincoln."
"I'll Never Lie to You."
"There you go again."
"Read my lips."
"I did not have sex with that woman."
"I understand small business growth. I was one."

You left out the one where Al Gore says "I created the internet."

No, that be a list of great Vice-Presidential quotes.
I would never get to that one because when I finished with Dan Quayle, there wouldn't be in letters left on my keyboard and I'm a hunt -n-peck rather than touch type.

It MUST be true that Al Gore created the Internet because
he said it on tv...so it has to be true!

You're a funny old bird Raoul... Quayle, Peck ... what next, accuse him of being a "dove" or a "hawk". Advocating a tax structure based on "robin" the rich to give to the poor. (Those damn left "wingers".) Seems like those liberals are all for the "birds".

I did find this quote by a Republican President but I left it out because I only went back as far as FDR and didn't think it was fair to skip.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
Theodore Roosevelt, Republican, 1918

just think about that Teddy quote and now go back and look at how many people were slammed as traitors for disagreeing with Bush over invading Iraq.

Disagreement with the views of the President is a right hundreds of thousands died to protect.

We have to also keep in mind that Teddy said that in 1918 when Wilson was President.

(So, I cheated)

First I respect your post however it is contradictive. It states that hundreds of thousands died to protect the 1st amendment (freedom of speech) which I believe you are saying is for people to disagree with our President. I absolutely agree with that and would give my own life to protect that right.

The contradiction with your post as I see it is it does NOT give that same right, the 1st amendment (freedom of speech) to others, those that want to ”slam others as traitors”.

It is either one way or the other, either everyone has a 1st amendment right or no one has it. Problem with most liberals (and I have no idea if you are or not) but the problem with most liberals is they want it ONE WAY ONLY, there way, freedom of speech that they APPROVE…

That there is one of the best President quotes every in history in my opinion. It meant ”Personal Responsibility”. To think it came from a conservative democrat the great J.F.K himself.

I bet he would be so disappointed in his party today changing his historical quote to what they believe and quote today:

"Ask WHAT your country can do for you…”

President Kennedy was a good president he also believed in tax cuts for ALL (middle class and the rich) and knew that is what it takes to get an economy going. To bad there is not more like him today…

I'm trying really hard to understand what you mean.

1.Everyone has freedom of speech rights.

2.Those that "slam others as traitors' wishing them to not speak out (kind of like denying 1st admendment rights) have 1st amendment rights the same as those they are trying to shut up because they are being traitors?

If you say it fast enough, it makes sense.

I - w i l l - p o s t - t h i s - s l o w l y…

That was funny, yes it was you chuckled….

What I am saying is if you truly want first amendment rights then you have to give them to all. To those that want to speak their piece and slam the president and those that want to speak their piece and slam those that slam the president.

I have never, nor would I ever tell someone to shut up. I can and always will disagree with someone that has a different opinion then mine and I will defend why I think the way I do with my words regardless what anyone may think of me, be it a traitor or what ever.

Now if I wish to call someone a traitor because I think they fit the definition of traitor in my opinion then I can do so with no worries. For instance those idiot traitors that were marching with signs showing Saddam as the nice guy and depicting President Bush as worse then Saddam they were and are traitors in my opinion. They supported an enemy of this country, to support and/or assist an enemy of this country is considered a traitor.

The name fits, so I use it that is my first amendment right as it is theirs to disagree with me and give their opinion of what they think I am. It is a two way street. Those that see it as one way street are traitors as well because they do not believe in or defend the Constitution of the United States of America…

I now give my remaining time in this post to the honorable Raoul from the great state of VA…

Since as of the last time I heard being a traitor is punishable by death. Hopefully 01 XLT Sport or people like him does not have any power or means to dish this out on someone. I just think the word traitor is thrown around today too much. Like when minority’s cry racism, sometimes it needs to be said sometimes it doesn't.

DOES: The FBI guy that sold secrets to the Russian

DOES NOT: When some celeb comes on TV and says they are against the war in Iraq.

It’s not even a free speech issue it’s an issue of what this can lead to, being a traitor is a crime. And the person at home on the computer saying someone is traitor does not bother me, what does bother is when more influential or powerful people start using it towards someone. Free Speech would probably also protect the citizens of Salem when they started yelling out “Witch” but the consequences of their words was not a good thing on the people they were accusing.

If you do not like what some celeb is saying don’t go to their movies or buy their music.

(Yes I know the Salem Witch trials were before the Constitution bad example but I think you get my point)

In all fairness it was J-150 who introduced the term 'traitors' to the thread not 01 XLT Sport. He and I have just been quoting it and growling over the bone is all.

Group A says "Free Speech!"
Group B says "Free Speech!

Group A says "Bad President!"
Group B Says "Traitor to say such thing! Do not speak it!"

Group A says "What about Free Speech?"
Group B says "Exactly! We have Right to deny free speech for you and call you traitor because we, Group B have Free speech"

Group A says "Huh?"

I am moving to Mexico where the Right to Free Speech I don't have won't be taken away from me.
