Thumbs up Observation while in Texas

Just got back from a business trip in Texas over the last week. While driving out to Sweetwater from Dallas I couldn't help but notice the overwhelming brand of trucks on the road. FORDs where everywhere. There was an occasional dodge or even a chevy but 9 out of 10 were fords. The other thing was how many Superduty Crew Cabs there were, almost like they were handed out.
Being an independant observer, the Texas state truck is a FORD.

There are more trucks sold in Texas than any place in the world. It is also fact that every fourth vehicle sold in Texas is a Ford truck.

If I remember correctly, I believe atleast that I read an article in the Dallas Morning News a couple weeks back about the new F-150 that's about to come out that stated that over 25% of all new Ford trucks are sold in the state of Texas, and that they sell more Ford trucks in the city of San Antonio than any other city in the country. The amazing part is on top of the enormous amount of Ford's in Texas, there is an enormous amount of Chevy's and Dodge's aswell. I'd emagine there are more pickup trucks (not even including SUV's) on the road in Texas then cars.

TEXAS / SAN ANTONIO

That is a long streach of road between Sweetwater and Dallas! I have to admit: shotgun - yes; chicken fried steak - yes; Ford truck - yes. There are a lot of Super Duties & Super Crews around the hill country (above San Antonio)! Wish you had given a little notice and had the time, might could have bought you a good C/F Steak, while you were here

Oooohhhhhhh -

Chicken Fried Steak -

You can't get that out here in Lost Angeles.

Another thing you can't get out here is Biscuits & Gravy...I mean REAL Biscuits & Gravy. No...you can't get stuff like chicken fried steak and biscuits & gravy in Lost Angeles because they are illegal here. You can get salad here...but not the real good stuff.

Other things that are illegal here.
Smoking in restaurants is verbotten. In fact, you can not smoke in any public place in L.A. County, and they are thinking of making smoking outdoors within a certain number of feet of a public facility illegal.
You can not even smoke in BARS...seriously. It's only a matter of time before they make drinking in bars here illegal too! (Actually, I don't drink or smoke...but I mean come on...isn't this going a bit far?)

God I miss biscuits and gravy and chicken fried steak....

I'm going to the midwest for lunch...

I used to live in Shreveport, LA. I know what you're talking about. I was just trying to get a rise out of the Texas guys.

Retired 2001,
Thanks for the offer but this was an intense business trip. 20 hour work days for the three that I was out in Sweetwater the other was spent traveling so no time for anything else.

We ate at this small BBQ place in town and one of the guys ordered CF steak. It covered the whole plate and of course had a boatload of mashed potatoes and gravy. I thought about ordering that as well but the steak called me away. It could be ordered by the thickness up to 2.5", so that's what I had nice and rare. Damn good food.

I was raised from 3 years old in Calif. went to school there in the San Bernardino area, actually lived up in Yucaipa, next to Redlands etc. Now if you want some good Mexican food Calif. is the place to go, even better then Mexico...

They have some excellent steak houses in southern Calif. as well, but as far as good "home cooked" type food, like the chicken fried steak no where close to the Texas’s food you can have served to you by people who actually speak your language, as well as some excellent home cooked type food in the Midwest where they too speak your language…

Last time I was in Texas visiting my brother in Austin, we stopped at a restaurant called the Texas Land and Cattle. That was some of the best food that I think I have ever eaten. It was several years ago, but I think I got the chicken fried steak and it was delicious.

And about the Ford trucks, that is just about all they have. And everytime I have ever been there, which is about 6-7 times, that is all I see. And most of them are superduties. I think one reason there are alot of Ford trucks there is because in some places they are pretty cheap. My brother told me when I got mine that I should have came there to get my truck, because I could have saved about 5-6k dollars or more. He said at one dealer, they had a brand new loaded F250 crewcab for close to only 32K dollars. Here something like that is well over 40K dollars.
