20/13? Without glasses or lenses? Yeah, I'd say that's pretty darn good. That means that you can see clearly from 20 feet away what the average person sees from 13 feet away. (not an optometrist, but that's my understanding)

I go under the laser on Thursday in an attempt to realize similar vision...not to intercept your thread, but wish me luck.

My left eye has 20/30, and my right eye has 20/100

The way they explained it to me was that if you put a sign on the wall, I have to be 20 feet from it to read it, where someone who has 20/20 vision can see the same sign from 100 feet away.

My husband is -5 in both eyes.... dude's as blind as a bat.

Speaking of vision tests... have any of you had Lasar Eye Surgery? He's thinking about it for next year, but it still a little uneasy.

Anyone?

i don't wear glasses anymore.. i quit wearing them several years ago, when i found out i could see better without them than most of my friends could see with their glasses on. lol

i started wearing glasses (nearsighted- caused by reading too many sci-fi novels during class i think) my senior year of high school, and my eyes have somehow gotten better over the years..

i still have a slight astigmatism (fuzzy) in my right eye, but it's not too bad.

i figure, if my eyes keep getting better, in 20-30 years, i'll be able to see the mars rover with the naked eye.. lol

yes steve, that is what the nurse told me..

my friend josh had the laser surgery done on his eyes.. he has 20/20 vision now!

let me tell you about his vision.. his eyes were so bad, eye masters (the one hour lens place) had to send off for someone to make his lenses!! they couldn't make them in-store. and at first, they didn't even make contact lenses that would correct his vision!

when he first went to the doctor about the laser surgery, they said his eyes were too bad to operate on!!
finally after a couple of years, they finally did the surgery, and it was a complete success!

he recommends laser eye surgery to everyone!

Steve = me = webmaster = Raoul's online nemesis

My Wife has Lasik about 2.5 years ago. She was -8 and -7.75 with a minor astigmatism (sp?) in both eyes. The day after the surgery she was 20/15...she has since settled at 20/20. Not bad results.

I'll keep everyone up to date on my status. I think there are several threads in GD discussion the topic. Try searching on Lasik...

My Grandfather had that surgery (he was legally blind without glasses on) and now he only has to wear reading glasses when he reads and that's it. He had been wearing glasses since he was a little kid till now.

My neighbors had that suergury done on their dog and it worked really well.

For $2000 per eye, I will stick to wearing telescopes.

GASSGUZZLER -

You can finance your eye surgery! But what I want to know is what happens if you stop making your payments? Do they come take your eyes back?

Mike (my husband) went to the Lasik place and had an exam. It seems that there's a "new" finer laser that they can use... of course for an additional $1000 or so...

A guy that works for my husband had it done last week... he was -9 in both eyes... he's now 20/30 in both. I think that's why he's starting to seriously contemplate the surgery.

Again, not to hijack the thread but...

My mom had the procedure done last month. She is 51 years old and has had poor vision all of her life. I'm not sure what exact condition that she had (near/farsighted etc) but, I can tell you that her vision has actually decreased since the procedure.

Her 'far away' vision is 'slightly' better than what it was prior to the procedure however; her 'close up' vision has actually decreased (according to her).

The doctor told her going in that she'd never be perfect and that she had some of the 'oddest' eyes that he'd seen as far as performing the procedure. Thus, she was informed and knew going in that it may or may not be successful.

Not to intimidate or scare but, that's the story... on the flip side, I've heard of and know NUMEROUS folks that have done it with nothing but success... my mom's case is the only one that I can think of that wasn't 100% successful.
