Canadian and American Jobs.
You read on this site a lot about not buying import vehicles, but has anyone noticed how many things we buy are made in China? Next time you buy something, just about anything, check where its made. I am going to make an effort to stop buying these items as I think they effect our jobs more than vehicle purchases. What do you think?
Thad,
I think buying local is an excellent idea, but in practicality, it's pretty tough to make happen (unless you have very deep pockets)
I remember 15 years ago or so, they had a big marketing campaign here with the slogan "Buy Canadian"
The commercial had some "touchy feely, fill you full of hope music", but the campaign was a flop for a few reasons:
* All the local goods were so overpriced, and cost substantially more than the overseas items.
It's hard to compete financially now when the Chinese pay their workforce peanuts compared to unionized salaries of the west.
* The local goods were more often than not lacking in quality compared to their overseas counterparts.
I try to buy NA made products when I can, and when it's financially feasible, but all of us work hard for our money, and it's hard to justify paying 50% more for the same item, and the quality is worse.
I do like the idea, but at the risk of sounding like a wet blanket, it's just not gonna happen enough to make any meaningful difference.
Besides, with the global economy the way it is, sometimes you might think you're buying "American", but in reality, you're not.
Habibi
PS --> I will always buy NA automobiles for personal reasons.
