has anyone here ever heard of a F-150 7700? i saw one today the fender badges said xlt but the tailgate badge said 7700 in place of the xlt im guessing its a work truck package or something related to that because it was an 8-lug set up and had a massive rearend housing

My truck is a 7700. It's 7 lug. Same as the old 250 LD's. Heavy duty frame, shocks, trans, rr 10.25 LS with 4.10. Plus other stuff like radiator cooler and larger brakes.

I've seen the truck you're talking about... My understanding was just like the other guys mentioned...

7 Lug and kind of a super duty F-150.

You certainly see a bunch more of them than I ever would... I've only seen one and it was in South Bend, Indiana (well, actually Mishawaka, In (right next door to Notre Dame/South Bend)).

Just to confuse matters a little bit more, the truck now sold as an F-150 7700 package was sold in 1997-1998 as an F-250 - but not a Super Duty. It's essentially a light duty F-250 or heavy duty F-150 depending on how you want to look at it. There used to be two visually identical F-250's in the pre-1997 body style with one being lighter duty. Some folks who didn't know the difference found out that the lighter duty version made a crummy plow truck due to the lighter duty components. So, confused even more?
