All caps to me means you're yelling.

I have my share of hardware but my wife seems to think it's excessive.

I load my own ammo. Anyone else?

Hmmmm....

Whar's the gun stories?

What's your best shot?

Do you prefer phenolic or alloy?

Do you prefer single shot, revolver, single action, double action, lever action, bolt action, semi-auto, or full auto? If so, why? If not why? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Are muzzle brakes useful on .223 rifles.

Why do you own a firearm?

On June 12th our Governor signed legislation allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons without a permit. This goes into effect in 90 days and is patterned after the Vermont statute.

I don't know about the phenolic or alloy, etc, and some of the other stuff. I own a shootgun and would like to get some others for the hell of it.

Anyway I own a shootgun for a few reasons. You don't need real good "gun control" when shooting, just kind of aim and it's going to hit what ever you aiming at...

It is a 12 gage so it would tear the chit out of someone, no nice little bullet hole where someone is asking "did I get shot?" with me, they would be looking down and saying "oh chit I have been shot, I have no arm..."

Oh, I also like the shotgun because it is LOAD as hell, so if I was to miss hitting a cat with it, the sound would KILL the cat of kitty heart attack...

9 mm Sig 239 (Conceal and Carry Gun)
9mm Glock 17 (Target practice)
40 cal Glock 22(Carry in my truck)
40 cal Glock converted into .357 sig (just bad ***)
Ruger Mark II Government Target/ Bull Barrel 6"(To write my name where ever)
Ruger 44 Superblack Hawk (deer hunting)
Para Ordanance .45 P-14 (Just for fun)
SW Model 586 .357 4"(usual side arm while deer hunting with a rifle)

Remington 870 super express 3 1/2 inch mag 12 guage (Blasting birds outta the stratosphere)

Savage 22-250 112 BVDS bull barrel with harris bi-pod and Leupold 3.5-20x dot scope...(for dogs and cats and rodents at long range)
New England Arms .45-70 Rolling block. (This is just a fun gun. Can't hit the broad side of a barn with it, even if you are standing inside with all the doors and windows shut, but it definatley packs a whammy)
Chinese SKS 7.62x39 (30 round chainsaw)

I know I forgot a few, but that is enough for now.
I also reload all of my ammunition, well not the .22's of course.

I have several presses and usually work out my own custom loads per rifle. I trim my cases, and use Sierra Spitzer Game King bullets for hunting as well as Hornady Ballistic Tip.

For pistol bullets I pretty much stick to Hornady XTP. I sometimes will use Speer or other brands. I use alot of lead bullets for pistols also, like 148 grain wadcutters. Or semi was cutters

Powders, I use Winchester for Pistol, usually 231 for 9mm or 296 for the magnums. Bullseye for .38 and .40 cal

For Rifle I use Hodgen 4831sc for the .270 and 30-06
I use so many for so many things I cannot list them all...lets just say i am sitting on a powder keg.

I generally target shoot. Some people play golf. I shoot. I get asked why I have so many guns. I usually reply, why does a golfer have so many clubs? Each gun is for a specific purpose and used to drive a ball of lead at different ranges and speeds. Just like different clubs. I love it. Its my past time and heritage. I like to know I can feed my family if all hell breaks loose or defend myself. I like the satisfaction of knowing I built my own ammunition and fired it onto a target and have the best grouping on the range. Its personal satisfaction.

Best Shot? hmmm that is a tough one. I suppose the one that sticks in mind is one that was over a 1000 yards away on a small 4 point buck deer I shot in the neck with a .30-06 180 grain Sierra Spitzer boat tail. I was using my Remington model 760 pump. I saw it while scoping the land out. There was no way to see this with the naked eye. I was on top of a ridge in South West Texas (Ozona) and scanning the canyon floor below. I was about 500ft up from the floor that spread out before me. There was absolutley no wind. I put the the very bottom of the vertical cross hair on the back of the deer and slowly squeezed the trigger. There are five witnesses that saw this. I was laying in the military style prone position when I fired. It took almost 2 seconds for the bullet to hit. I was able to recover from the recoil of the gun, and watch through the scope as the bullet hit. I watched in complete amazement as the deer flipped up and around and then fell to the ground stone cold dead. The vaccuum of gasps behind me was all I needed to know that I had made one hell of a shot. I was hunting with my boss and it was his deer lease. He always knew I could shoot and I proved it earlier that morning by shooting a doe at 400 yards that was at a dead run. He treated me allot different after that trip. Seemed to be allot nicer. I guess he didn't want to **** me off or something lol.
All in all I capped 4 deer in four shots and tagged out in two days.
Best year I ever had deer hunting. And best shot I have ever made. Witnesses are still alive and well today to back that one up. Lets just say it took 20 minutes to walk down to the deer.

Best pistol shooting was with my 9mm glock shooting metal plates at 75 yards. We do this every year. Now I have been in more arguments over this then with any other gun. Most people, including the Millitary will say the effective range of a 9mm is about 40 yards max. I start telling people that my best friend and I shoot them at 75 yards, almost always brings out the hip waters and the red bs flags. He has the same problem. PPL think we are full of chit. We have measured the distance to a tee. We set the first plate up, they measure 4"x8" at 25 yards and work are way back from right to left till we get to the last plate (10 in all) that we set up at exactly 75 yards. You gotta knock them over. ANd you are only allowed one magazine with 14 rounds. We usually fire Russian 9mm 115 grn hardball. I will invite anyone on this Forum to come to Texas and give it a try or just watch. We have a 100 acre track where we can shoot out in East Texas 15 miles East of Jasper in a small town called Newton.

I prefer a 30-06 Pump for deer hunting. Why? Fast follow up shots, heavy .30 cal to get through the brush. I hunt in a thick heavily forested area. I prefer a .357 mag for a side arm. One reason, for personal defense against hogs, coyotes, rednecks that think my deer would look better in the back of their truck and so forth. Another reason is to finish off a wounded deer. Its quick and painless and not as devestating as a point blank range shot from a high powered rifle.

Muzzle break on a .223? LOL....heh umm that is as pointless as ***** on a hog. I guess if you are shooting rapid fire competition, it might have its advantages, but there is so little recoil I'd have to fire it myself just to see. It would depend on the gun. Weight, action, and so forth. I guess it would be like chryo cooling your barrels. Is there really an advantage?

I guess that will just about wrap it up for now. I'm sure questions will follow.
