Dixie Chicks pro PETA
The dic*ed chicks are making money for their singing abilities not their political leanings. Since they have now brought to light which way they lean they may or may not make as much money as before. It is a “complete” package if you will. Before the package was just entertainment, now it includes their political view. Some may like the package while others may not. If they lose money they have no one to blame but themselves.
I agree with the above statements 100 percent. I agree you have the right to dislike what they said and as a result not buy their music. Personally I listen to the music I like regardless of the artists political leanings, as long as they are not advocating violence or the overthrow of our government. In fact I don't care what actors, singers and comedians think. Neither should anyone else, including reporters and editors who use such tripe to sell papers and commercials.
I also agree that if a subcontractor cannot get along with anyone else on the job he should not be hired again. However, that has nothing to do with what type of music you might listen to. I still think his analogy is not relevent. No offense to anyone, but the two do not compare equally.

They may not, but it goes back to the old saying "Life is not fair" it never will be. It is hard to blame reporters, editors, TV or any media outlet. Reason being is people such as the dic*ed chicks use them every time they can to help promote them, so they can't cry foul when they use other things either...
But then is it right for selective news media to give free promotions for singers who write politicaly correct songs and then trash artists whith whom they politically disagree with, and then try to pass it off as news?
Didn't want to open a can of worms, just point out the beliefs held by certain prominate people. IMHO if you support oneone, with your money, be it buying their product or donations, you support what they believe. If you support a politcian, you support their beliefs, If you buy from a company or indivdual that promotes a cause, then you are supporting the same cause. Just my opinion. Ford makes a fine product, but if they promoted a cause or politician I was against , I'd not buy their product.

Like if Ford employed a rapper, which you may not like,
to help market its trucks and cars to the African American market. Would you never buy Fords products again, just because they employed a rapper that you did not like? Heck, I really dislike rap (its not music) but I still enjoy a cold Budwieser or Budlight once and a while, even though Busch uses rap to sometimes market its products. Pizza Hut still delivers to my house once and a while even though I am not a fan of Rush Limbaugh. Same way with orange juice.
It seems we all hold strong opinions on politics here and it is good that we do. I will not be so presumptuous as to claim the last word or end of story. Nor will I try to insinuate that other grown men here do not understand how life works, I have done very nicely for well over four decades thank you very much.
Since I only like one song the gals in question have ever done it seems silly to be the only one defending them. I even think they didn't use use the best judgement possible when deciding how and where to make their opinions known. However, it is not illegal to make bad judgements (unless they lead to a crime) and we have a man who made bad judgements all of his life and then became our president when he tired of being the town drunk. Well, before I cause someone here to go apoplectic I will sign off this thread and defend to the death your right to disagree with me. If you refuse to support anyone who disagrees with you, then please never use any chemical products, gasoline, or steel, and stay out of buildings because I am involved with the building and creation of all of these things. And I would hate to think you are going against your own beliefs.
IMHO

No one is saying or disagreeing that the dic*ed chicks have a right to say what they want. They said what they said and now have to suffer from it, if they suffer at all. It could have made them more popular thus making more money, and it may well have left a very bad taste in many people's mouth and thus a lose of money for them.
It is COMPELTELY their OWN responsibility for what ever happens to them and their career's.
As far as what one buys and from who all depends. Ford might hire a sponser who is a rapper that I may not like. That won't stop me from buying a Ford. However if Ford was giving some of their money to support child rapest (even if it was 2%) I would NEVER buy a Ford because of their "beliefs". I would not care if a Ford truck lasted 10 times longer then any truck on the road, if they supported child rapest (by giving money) I would never own a Ford.
That is life and how life works...
Hey 01 XLT Sport, thanks for the support there brother!
Nick D....... It is apparent that you and I see the world through very different viewpoints. And it is that very right that makes this country strong. I'm only going to offer two personal comments in this post which obviously you're free to rebutt to your heart's content.
First, I reserve the right on my jobsite's to fire anyone I've hired for whatever reason I choose. Unfair, yes, but that's the reality of the world that I live in. I would however, exercise a measure of common sense and not proclaim in front of everyone that a person was fired because of a social affiliation I didn't feel comfortable with. That's where common sense and prudence would take over for me. Natalie of The Dixie Chicks apparently doesn't understand these two concepts.
Second and probably most significant to me about this subject (as you had posted) is that the Dixie Chicks are simply entainers. As such, they're overall impact to society as a whole is minimal regardless of their personal opinions and beliefs. If they disappeared off the planet tomorrow, I doubt they'd me missed in a week or two. Because of this personal opinion, their comments about the war and President Bush just kinda ran off my back and I forgot about them after about a week or two. Simply chocked their comments up to incredibly bad timing and judgement on their part. But as 01 XLT Sport noted, The Chicks do have the right to say what they want, but they shouldn't cry and wine when a majority of the population doesn't agree with their position and calls them to the mat for it. I would have personally developed a level of respect for the Chicks if Natalie had stood by her original comments rather than pandering to the public and issuing a limp wristed apology. If she really felt strongly enough about the topic to spout off about it in front of a crowd on foreign soil, she should have stuck by her comments and let the chips fall where they may. Oops, I forgot, we need to jump back to the real world here where $$$$$$$$$ in their pockets are far more important than personal views and opinions. It's that type of person for which I have no respect.
Man I sware this is the longest post I've ever written.........

No problem BigDeal. I understand what your trying to say. I also understand what Nick D. is trying to say. I do think Nick D. is making logical statements, but that life does not operate on the logic he speaks about.
Not trying to change the subject of this thread, but that is why I think the public schools are doing a HUGE disservice to children by trying to make everything “fair” for all. The schools should NOT do that because it gives children the mind set that life really is fair when it is not. The public schools are harming children very much by “pretending” everything is “fair and equal”.
It goes right back to the first amendment and freedom of speech. Yes every single American has the right to say what ever it is they wish to say, be it here in America or on foreign soil. However it does not “guarantee” they will not be held to answer for what they may spout off. I would equate that to everyone has the right to invest in the stock market. The stock market does not “guarantee” everyone will win and make a profit. Some will win (make profit) and some, perhaps many will fail (lose money).
Natalie made a business decision to open her mouth and spout something she “thought” was popular and would make her “look cool”. That is the type of person she is, like a lot of Hollywood actors trying to fit in with the crowd but yet have NO personal values or beliefs of their own.
If Natalie had personal values and a belief of her own she would have, as you stated, stood FIRM on what she had said and NOT backed off. That just shows she has NO personal values or beliefs but just goes with the crowd. She is a follower and not a leader. That is ok because in real life most people are followers and not leaders. They do not have the courage to be a leader because at times, maybe many times when a leader says something there will be people who will attack what they said. A true leader will stay the course and not let in because a true leader has courage, moral values and personal beliefs and are not worried about being one of the crowd…

I can answer that one for myself in case your wondering. I would not fire someone based on their political beliefs, so long as they performed their job and have the qualifications and keep their mouth shut in the work place.
I would never fire someone that was gay either so long as they keep their mouth shut. They start talking in the work place about their sex life I would show them the door...

You and I are on the same page there. I was curious as to Big Deals take on that since he said he would fire anyone for any reason.

Living in the south I have in the past hired subs that were members of the KKK, or other white supremacy group. Didn't know it when they were hired, but it came to the surface over a short period of time. On one occasion, I had a white guy at lunch time on one of my sites (don't know how the conversation began) explaining to everyone that would listen how useless n*ggers were and how far above them we (white people) are. I have several very talented black and hispanic subs that I use frequently on my sites, and I deemed the kinda nonsense he was spouting to be totally inappropriate given the time and place. I fired the guy on the spot with no second chances, no long explanations, and no regrets, and would do it again in a second. Whether he liked it or not, he was forced to take personal responsibility for his actions/comments.
Simply put, there's a time and a place for everything, and sharing political/personal/ethnic views which disrupt my jobsite will not be tolerated.
Welcome to the real world according to Mike.
Might I ask you a question? You wouldn't happen to work for the ACLU would ya? Your questions sound a whole lot like those posed by the ACLU rep that visits me at my office from time to time to insure I'm hiring enough minority workers (which I always am).
OUTSTANDING job there BigDeal, I would have fired his @ss as well.
The ACLU is the biggest waste of human resources there could ever be. They are an organization that practices nothing but racist policies. Simply put they could care less about helping someone get ahead but rather look at everyone as color coded.
The ACLU figures if someone is black or brown they are too stupid to get ahead or make a decision on their own so the ACLU is there to hold their hand. I am sorry but I don’t see people or judge them by the color of their skin. I see and judge people based on their character, values, experience, and how they carry themselves.
I would only hire the best qualified person period, I don’t care what color they are. My personal belief is the only people held back in this country are those that choose to be. Some may argue that there are cases to prove me wrong that some black or brown or who ever are held back and do not have the chance at good or great school. To them I say “good luck” proving your point because for every minority you throw up and say was held back I can show you more then one who is not a minority who did not have a chance at a good or great school.
Those that are held back or denied an opportunity have chosen that path or are allowing it to happen. Many people have a hard time moving up or getting an opportunity regardless if they are white or any other color. Those that bust their @ss, stand their ground, and don’t mope around crying they are a victim have an equal chance.
