speeding ticket

ok here's the deal, i've been trying to clean up the record. actually made it 3 years w/o a ticket.
this sat. i'm taking the son to a soccer game with his mom, i'm driving her truck. bright red f150 short bed reg cab. i'm on a highway, need to exit to the left. get in the left lane which is flying, but i'm still being passsed by cars on the right. at the end of the off ramp that i take i hear the siren chirp.
he asks why i'm going 73 in a 50 zone in lane 1.(i thought it was 65 zone but that's irrelavent) that was the speed in that lane that traffic was going. my quest. is why did he pull the truck. my thoughts, could be very wrong but a black officer pulls the only f150 in sight. not the cars in front of or behind me and not the cars passing me. keep in mind i work in an almost all black neighborhood and regularly get called redneck. the reason they give is that i must be if i drive an f150. (was that his thought also)
anyways wound up with a $200 fine and 6 points. didn't even write the ticket down a little like they normally do.
am i way off base here or does it seem a little odd.
anyone think it's worth fighting? generally i go to court and try to get the points lowered a little.
this is not intended to start a flame war or race war, i just want actual opinons as to what people think the motivation for stopping a vehicle in the pack would be.

i think the motivation was...that you were doing 73 in a 50...just a thought. you have to remember that when you drive onto a on ramp, the speed lomit drops...the two exits i use regularly are exit16 n.b on I476 in montgomery county, i also us exit 9 of sbI476 and without a curve the speed limit drops from 55(i hate PA!) doen to 25 at ***** off ramps!

i dont think you getting pulled over was racially motivated, but i wouldnt be surprised. i also thing that with the truck being bright red, that it grabbed the attention of the officer!

good luck if you fight the ticket

I'd say that red truck probably stood out from the pack.
I've been on the other side of this situation. I was the
plain green truck speeding with about three other vehicles.
The one who was stopped was driving a bright yellow
'stang.

oh, you know cops. Tryin to get everybody. But probably your truck was the only vehicle that stood out.... and it just grabbed the guy's attention. That or he could also be a Chevy person. Sorry about the points.

thanks guys, that's why i put the color of the truck in there as well. yes that is what i want to believe too. doggone bright red, next time we'll take mine, black seems to go by the radar easier.
still have to try and get it lowered, can't afford that many points on my record
schoolbus, i was clocked before the off ramp, that is just where he pulled me over.

I think it's the visibility factor.
I have been pulled over at various times in all my US cars here in England. Happens to a lot of people in our club too.
Actually, that's illegal for cops to do that in the UK unless you are commiting a moving violation and I tell them so.
I have never had a ticket but it's hard to be incognito in a 57 Plymouth or an F150 over here.
Most cops are ok but some are just a$$holes like any other group of people.

Bad luck about your ticket. Put it down to experience.

My 95 black f150 was a "ticket magnet". IMO black is
as bad as red...especially when you throw in some 60's
and a loud exhaust. They tore me a new a-hole. My
friend who is an ex-cop says the first thing he always
looked for was either the loud exhaust, wide wheels,
or a "sporty" color. Any vehicle with any of those
characteristics was the "sacrifical lamb" of any group.
My current truck is so plain...I have the opposite
"problem" now. If I'm in a group of speeders...I'm
usually passed over. All my friends say my current vehicle
looks like an "old man" truck.

Since the officer picked you out of a pack of vehicles, I'm also thinking it was because the bright red caught his eye. You know, like a mad raging bull with bloodshot eyes. Bulls hate "Red" anything.

trapper:

Here in Ga many troopers refer to the "task of getting speeders"
as "going to the melon patch" to pick out a fresh watermelon (speeder) or "lets go fishing".

Well , when I go fishin' and see a bunch of different kind of fish. I just wanna catch the purtiest and biggest one.

In other words it's almost like a compliment but with stiff penalties.

Sorry 'bout you bein' the unlucky fish.

thanks guys, talked to some people who live in the area of the ticket, they said if you go to court they will usually lower to a 3 pointer with the same fine. that works for me. i'd rather have a clean record but 3 is definitely better then 6 points. shoot i'd pay double the fine if they'd lose all the points.
maybe i better go shoot some gray primer on that truck.
if that isn't bad enough i also drive a bright red sport bike on the street. been lucky with that so far(knock on wood).

Good Luck in your court appearance. If you can get the court to cut the points in half, look into a AAA point reduction program locally. Around here, AAA has a 2 point reduction class. I think it's around $75 and you can go to it once every 2 years
