Bike forums?

Looking for a general bike forum. Did a search on the net and found mostly ones dedicated to certain brands and models. I haven't really done any research on what particular bike I want and just had some questions pertaining to the actual purchase and the rigamarole that it entails.

I am considering the purchase of a new bike in order to make payments. I know some are offering 0 down but I didn't want to be that highly leveraged with no steady source of income. I was planning to do about 20-25% down on a $7,000 (ballpark) bike with a 3-5 yr. payment plan, depending on early-payment penalties and all.

I also wanted to know more about the insurance aspects of owning a 600cc sport bike being 19-20 yrs old. I am signed up for Abate and may take some MSF courses locally. However, I cannot seem to get a straight answer regarding insurance on the bike. I've heard everything from being able to choose from 3/5/7/12 active month plans to only full-year annual plans. I've also been given a pretty wide (and wild) range of rates.

Sorry this is a bit OT but I know there are some seasoned riders (and ones that are much more in my shoes) that might be able to lend a hand. Sorry about the long-winded post.

Thanks in advance.

I dont know to much about bike forums but so cool sites here.

As for insurance I guess it varies state by state here in NJ I pay almost $700 a yr for a 2000 R-6 will full coverage highest limits theft,fire.ect. I am 29yrs old I know it is a big jump in cash for anything over 600cc in NJ thats why I did not get a R-1 insurance would have been close to double.
I am glad I got the R-6 it is a cool little bike pleanty fast and will out handle most of the big bikes it just does what ever you want it to do.
I have been riding for years and this is the first 600 I ever had that would just wheelie with no clutch help the new 600's are packed with pleanty power if you want more just get a pipe and jet kit that is what I did
One thing about bikes I will say start out small no matter what people say (you'll out grow it in a week) my azz a new 600 is like a 1000 that is 5yrs old plus what you lose in HP you gain in less weight you can hang with any bike out there and how many times are you gonna go 200
hey just my opinion

Is that 700 for the full year? I would like to insure it for only about 5 months during ideal riding season, especially here in Indiana.

Yes $700 for a full yr maximum coverage
Rider Insurance in NJ they just insure motorcycles but I don't think they insure any rider under 25 with out penalties

If I remember correctly, you are located in Indiana. Check with Farm Bureau for a quote on insurance. I'm a "little bit" older than you, but I couldn't find anyone that could beat their rates. They quote for a full year of coverage, but the rate was still great. It may help that I have all of my other insurables (house, shop, cars, etc.) with them, also. At your age, just hope that you have a clean record (hard to do, I know). I think you will find rates for 700 cc or less bikes more reasonable than the bigger ones. Insurance companies seem to put a rate break about there. Just to get an idea, pick a model of bike that you "may" get. Call various insurers in your area to get a quote and compare. Be sure to ask if they will, and how much discount for passing the MSF riders course. Some companies will give a decent discount for that. I would reccomend that you take the course, even if you are a rider. I have been riding for many years, and took the advanced riders course about three years ago. They can still teach an old dog new tricks. I had a Buell S1 Lightning at the time and it was a great bike to take the course with (you provide your own bike for the MSF advanced riders course).

Good Luck,
Mike

My husband recently bought a Suzuki GSXR750 and just completed his MSF course. He would be the one to ask about insurance questions though...check out his website:

http://www.streetknights.com/phpBB2/index.php

There is a special "motorcycle forum" where they would be happy to help a fellow biker out

Good luck to you
