I am just about to purchase a 1998 F150 4.6 It has a Vortech supercharger installed on it. The owner had it dyno-tuned and the dyno sheet shows 274 hp at the rear wheels. It has 44,000 miles on the truck (about 8,000 on the supercharger). Anything in particular that I should look at for on this truck? It looks pretty mint, runs very strong, etc. Thanks in advance for your help.

Look for oil in the intake behind the throotle body, run an compression check if you can, and look for the amount of rubber in the rear wheel wells for signs of alot of abuse

 

I'd agree with Fast Gator. If the stock PCV set up is on there there is a good chance that you will find at least a bit of oil in the intake ell. Even naturally asperated engines will blow some oil into the TB, but the supercharger can increase the amount significantly. Mine did.

Some of the rubber in the wheel wells can be wiped off. Not all of it though. Look good in there, around brackets and in seams. If there is a ton of rubber, that truck has been worked.

It's good to have support, especially when supercharged so stick around. There is a ton of real good info here and lots of really cool people.

I know you'll have a blast with that truck if you end up getting it. Let us know what you think!

Well, Green _98, I guess it depends on who is driving it. So far the best I've been able to pull off was a 15 with 5psi. I need some more practice. The strip isn't as easy as it looks. To date, I've done ten runs at a strip. All with this truck. I think that the truck is capible of low 14's. The 5-speed is tough to work with. We all know how sloppy it is. You can imagine how it is when your trying to go ***** to the wall for the best time. I'm now running 9psi so I hope to bring home some more respectable times this year.

So "I" am running 15 with the truck. The truck, I believe, can do better. I just have to figure out how to make the truck do it.

I'm not getting the best times at the strip, but on the street this thing can stay ahead of most without a problem.
