Blue Oval Converts

I thought you Ford truck guys might find this interesting. I belong to another web site designed for Corvette owners. Yesterday the subject of "what's your daily driver" was up for discussion. I mentioned my Ford truck and all of a sudden it was "true confessions". Corvette owners with Ford trucks were coming out of closets all over the country. While these guys still think the center of the universe is in Bowling Green, Kentucky - they obviously understand who's the boss when it comes to trucks.

Careful now... the center of the universe is in Bowling Green...

Not only do they make every last Vette' that you see on the road (new body style)... but... they also have...

WESTERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY!

GOOOOOO TOPS!

Oh yeah, I guess I should reveal that I am a WKU alum with dual degrees in Hydrology and Environmental Geology The only other thing that I got from BG was a beer gutt.

Convert? Kinda...

My last two trucks were Chevy and GMC with 350cid motors.
Good trucks. Funny though they both had intake gasket issues that ended up leading to head gasket failure.
I'm running a 1999 Ford F150 with the 4.2, did my homework on that one, chose the '99 to avoid same trouble with the newer truck. My girlfriend's dad has a fleet of over fourty late model Ford trucks, anything from 150s out to big bobtails and dump trucks. None of these new series trucks give him a lick of trouble.
Worked with a fabrication shop a couple of years ago where the fleet were all bowtie rigs. Lots of issues with them, not nearly as reliable as the Fords.
Guess you could call me a convert. Sold my '51 Chevy sedan to fund the purchace of my F150. The GMC is for sale too.

GMC = Garage Man’s Companion.

Ford for me was in the genes, well kind of forced, so to speak.

My father, while I was in high school:

"If you get a girl pregnant, we are going to have a serious talk."

"If you buy a Chevy or GMC truck I will disown you!"

I chose not to be disowned…

Reminds me of my "Quote of the day":

It’s not the Chevy owner’s fault that his parent passed the stupidity gene to him, its genetics…

I am not a convert i have always driven fords. and speaking of truck fleets my work has about 20 trucks and 17 are chevys and the 3 fords are 2 f550 superduty powerstokes and the other one is a f350 superduty v-10 the fords run great with no problems. i am stuck with one of the chevy vans and it is on its 5th tranny and its only a 1997 with about 120,000 miles on it. WHAT A PEICE OF S**T

Note to Fast Gator

I see you are a senior member so I'll try to do this with a certain amount of respect. I own a 2002 Z06 Corvette and spend nearly every Friday night in the summer at the drags. I can hosestly say I don't remember "ever" being shut down by a Ford truck. Now maybe this might happen if you matched up one of those silly SVT's with a broken down mid seventies vette running on seven cylinders.

In the future let's try to keep the forum sensible.

Regards - Remo

Fast Gator before you post about being a senior citizen please refer to my quote of the day:

Dear Mr Remo

Iam truely sorry to hurt your feeling. But the fact remains there are MANY 4800 lb trucks running low to mid 12's. More than a dozen in the 11's and many more to do that this racing season. And as it stands now, 3 that have run 10,50's the last racing season.
So as far as trying to keep the forum sensible, lets face the facts. When a 4800 lb pickup can run with or better than chevys premiere sports car, I can understand your hurt Besides our vehicles can haul more that a couple golf clubs. LOL Having said that, if a Z06 found its way into my driveway, hell ya I would keep it.
After all is said and done, you will be VERY disappointed next time you run that 50K sports car against a SILLY 32K Lightning with $800 worth of mods

PS Really look forward to your returning post

My friend drives a Dodge truck for his company. They have a couple of Fords as well. He says he likes Dodges better and hates driving the Fords. They let him use the truck like it's his own vehicle.

He bought a car in the mountains that needed to towed on flat-bed trailer. He asked to borrow my truck to tow it. I let him use it and he said it worked out great. He says he still prefers Dodge because the Fords ride rough and don't handle well for everyday driving. Oh well , he now knows how good these trucks are . He is just one of those type of people that can't admit a mistake.

I drove his Dodge truck (not much) while he had mine. My only thoughts were , wow , what a POS, loose steering, uncomfortable, rougher riding than my 4x4 and under-powered.

He has to be a closet convert if that truck is what he based his opinion on.

Fast Gator makes a good point:

You can haul alot more Hooters in the truck then any Vett.

Damn, that must really suck a 50K car getting wooped by a 32K truck that even looks alot better then the plastic boy toy...

Gator Aid

Fast Gator,

Don't worry about hurting my feelings. At my age the only thing that hurts is taxation without representation. As far as that Ford vs Chevy business goes - I got past all that when I was about 25 years old.

Now let's talk about your 10 second trucks. Common sense would dictate that to get a 4800 lb vehicle with aerodynamics of a brick to run in the 10's - well we're probably not talking about a stock set up. Of course with "very little" work you can get a Z06 to run in the 10's and still drive it to the office.

But none of this has anything to do with the original post. The point of the post was how interesting it was to see so many vette owners choosing Ford trucks as their daily drivers. Gator it's the best of both worlds. Lighten up. I drive a Ford truck, it's a great product.

Good chatting with you,
Remo
