Question Odor in A/C????

I just recently bought my Navi...and I have noticed there is an odor/smell that comes out of it for about 10 minutes or so when I first turn the a/c on??????? Since I bought the truck at a dealership, I do not know of the previous history on the owner of the truck. However, with a little investigation, (I looked at the cig. lighter) and noticed it had been used.....so I am pretty sure the previous owner smoked in it.....I believe it's cig. smoke I am smelling...YUCK!

Is there anyway to get this smell out of the a/c????????

Go get an 03 Navi with the electric running boards... It's an inexpensive option to a hard to deal with problem. LOL!

I have heard of a product called OZONE on this board. Don't know much about it but I'm sure someone else will chime in!

You may have a cabin air filter that can be changed, or you can install one cheap. There is also a way to flush out nasty stuff from the vents, I'll have to search for that one.

Here's the filter info thread.Filter

NaviGirl,

There are products that you can use to help with the problem. Dealerships usually use them when they get a smoker's car. If you just bought it from a dealership then take it to them and they may help you out.

However , it may be mold and mildew that you're smelling caused from the A/C unit.

Good Luck on the Yuck.

one thing to help prevent the mold/mildew, is to always cut the air control to "OFF". i think it says to do this in the owners manual..

Clonetek,
I think you need to turn it to "vent" or on my Screw the first position on the left. This lets the outside air flow thru without the A/C on.If you turn it to the "off" position, then there is no air flow to dry out the system. At least that's what I remember.

Might turn on the heater to full blast every once in a while to "burn" out the condensation left over in the vents from the A/C.
keep the **** over one position to the left to keep the air circulating, in addition to changing the cabin filter.

If it's mold or mildew you will have to have the vent system treated. The stuff can make you sick.

Good luck!

OPPS, just read the thread posted above...yeah, They got the subject nailed!

I use some stuff called "frigi-fresh". Got it at my dealer for like 6 bucks. Works great.
