Cabin Filter KIT

Has anyone purchased or have this option in their truck, I was just wondering what advantages there are for having one, and exactly what is it it supposed to filter out?
Thanks Gino

I believe it's supposed to filter out pollens and fine particles of dust that get sucked in from outside by the ventilation system. They're supposedly helpful if you have allergies. However, if you drive with the windows and vents open (like I do) it's a waste of money.

Waste of money??

Its only a waste if you drive all day long with the windows rolled down, while speeding on dusty gravel roads. Have had mine in since new. Everytime I replace it, its amazing what it catches. You will also notice a lack of dust dirt in the cab, you do get some, just not nearly as much. Its a good kit to get. You just have to be sort of a contortionist to put it in, but it is worth it.

Because I suffer from allergies I wouldn't own a vehicle that didn't have a cabin air filter. They do make a difference.

Thumbs up

I installed one in my previous and current F-150. It DOES make a huge difference. I highly recommend the kit..it costs about $63.00 the last time I checked.

Wolverine,

The cabin air filters are a dealer (in my case owner) installed option, not standard equipment.

They are installed in the air box directly below the glove compartment. To check your truck first be willing to stand on your head or have a mirror handy. There might be a trim piece under the dash that will partially block your view. What you will probably see is a rectangular area about 1"X8" molded into the bottom of the air box. This is where the filter kit is installed. If by chance your truck has one installed you will see a cover that is about 2'X10" and held in place by six screws. Removing that cover gives access to the filter.

I was charged $71 for my kit last February.

I've not looked to see if I have one yet because it's too cold outside. But I do think it's a good idea to have a cabin filter. I have allergies too.

I have a 97 F150 SC 4.6 V8 4X2. Can I install one if I don't already have one? When did Ford start installing this filter?

Thanks

F1Fifty,

The filter kits are for 1997 and up. Ford started making these kits available when they changed to the current body style.

I don't believe the kits were available for the old body style.

The part number on the kit I got is
F65Z 18D477 AA Cabin Filtration Kit '97 F-Series.

Even though it said it was for a '97 the kit fit my '01.
