Larry Hagman

Larry Hagman (JR Ewing from Dallas) was quoted in the news this morning as having said that President GW Bush is a stupid man with very little education. I don't know much about Hagman but I would be suprised if he has an MBA from Harvard as does the President.

I am sick of these hollywierd types giving their opinions in a public forum where most people do not have the sense to realize that actors "pretend" for a living and that their opinions, like all of us, are developed from their life experiences which, in their case, comes from movie scripts and sound stages and not the real world.

Reguardless of your political leanings, why would anyone want to be influenced by the Larry Hagman's and George Clooney's of the world? I believe that those of us in "fly-over-country" are the real world, not these freaks on TV.

I would love to encourage others to skip their weekly or monthly night out at the movies for a while. My wife and I very rarely go to movies at a theatre and more often rent movies to view at home. Since most of these suck anyway, I am not going to miss either. If you choose to join me, please encourage others to do the same.

Thanks.

Mike, I would agree with you that the President is not a stupid man. However, I don't believe those that dissagree should be silenced. There are a couple of reasons for this.

One, I want to hear the opposing points. After doing so, the faith in my position will be strengthened through that exposure and at least there won't be a possibility that I have been blindly mislead.

Two, someday you or I may be the minority voice in some cause. At that time, I would not the policy to be 'keep quiet'.

Besides that, not only did Larry Hagman serve six years as an Air Force Major, he was also an astronaut.
(Although, the rumor is he was shacked up with a woman from the Middle East at the time)

Raoul,
It is a shame that many American's do not have the ability to separate what they see on television from reality as do you and I and I suspect many others on this site. For many, seeing it in print or on TV means it is real. That is why I believe that hollywood is taking advantage of a bully pulpit to promote onesided views. As this is where many people get their information, it is unlikely that those who are exposed to this will have the opportunity to hear our side and make an informed decision. My not going to movies is not going to silence the other side but it does mean that I am living out my values. Why give them my hard earned money? As I said before, most of the crap that comes out of Hollywood is really not worth spending money on anyway. (That money is much better spent on my Truck!)

BTW-I am always shocked when someone who has a military background as you said Hagman does speaks out against the President reguardless of who is in office but especially when a Republican is in office. Obviously Hagman is not interested in continuing to fund and support the individuals who serve in the very branch that he once served.

Mike

Having a degree does not make one smart. I believe Richard Nixon had a Ph.D. in astrophysics.

A degree in Astrophysics doesn't make you smart but, it does make you tricky.

That was just an urban legend anyway.
Nixon never said he had a Doctorate in Astrophysics.
He said he told a Doctor he had Asteroids.

I saw a thing on television (dammit, they got to me too!) that was talking about Bill Clinton's first Presidential election. The report indicated that a big reason for President Clinton's election was his appearance on MTV. That's just plain scary.

you missed the point Raoul.

Too many people mistake education and intelligence as the same thing.

Yeah , what he said. The fact that they are famous actors and have the ability to get on camera doesn't mean they are right. They just get more favorable press. The little guy has no voice for rebuttal. There may be a silent majority but you wouldn't know because of the skewed media.

TimeOut! The train has jumped the tracks.

(Larry Hagman served six years (seasons) in the Air Force but, his name was Major Nelson at the time)

sorry if I mislead.

Even though it didn't apply here, I do agree with this statement.

and let me say it is a two way street. You don't get to pick when you want to play and when you want to pick up your toys and go home. It is the 'Office' you respect regardless of who holds it.

Which is why I was so pissed off at a certain Former Marine Lt Colonel and his oft repeated quote.

"He is not my President." - Oliver North

And this Jackass ran for Senator from my state?

"He is not my Senator." - Raoul Obaganzee McMurphy Jones

I despised Clinton but, North needed to get a clue.

and at such time when we engage in conflict with hostile forces, I will support my President, my Country and my military with all my ability.

...until that time, I reserve the right to bellyache, complain, stomp my feet and whine as I see fit.
