The farther-back Jr. finishes, the better I like it. Too many people were 'giving' him that race, even before it started. Another five to ten laps and a Ford could have won. Funny, those announcers said little about that.

I find that very hard to believe. I don't think for a minute anyone of those drivers is going to give another driver anything especially the race. Team mates is a different story I could see one team mate helping another etc.

Trust me the DEI cars were very fast and hard for some to catch. There is too much BIG money in Nascar for some or ALL the drivers to just move over and give someone the race.

NO NO...Maybe I didn't say it right. I didn't mean the other drivers were giving Jr. the race...I meant the announcers! Seemed like all they could talk about was DEI and the #8 car.

Ok, got you. I agree. I like jr. I do cheer for him at times. I was big time Dale sr. fan, jr still has to earn the respect as far as I am concerned. I will say the one annoucer, cant think of his name the one with Waltrip (DW) his old crew cheif. He kept saying something to the effect that just because jr was strong didnt mean he would win. So many possiblities durning the race. I will say jr and waltrip both had very strong cars. DEI has the plate racing down pretty well.

Plate racing is not many tracks though so if they (DEI) want to be strong they need some real work with the other tracks as well.

This year will be a tough one as far as guessing who may do well. So many new young drivers, from last year etc and there all doing pretty well so some stiff competation.

I personally think the Daytona should be a race that they have to complete all 500 miles if it takes a day or a whole week. I realize they have a race next weekend. What they could do is schedule the second race two weeks from the Daytona (next year) so that way if they get rained out the initial weekend they have all week or the next weekend to run the race.

It is the "superbowl" "world series" of Winston cup so in my opinion they should have to finish the complete race as well as finish under green flag racing (no finish under caution).

The superbowl don't get rained out of snowed out, the world series, well I guess they postpone it if it rains or snows because they are such wussies. I think baseball should HAVE to play in the rain and snow as well. They could always make the ball floresent green or something LOL. Baseball players are such wussies almost as bad as golf...

During the 'non NASCAR season' I got into watching the Australian V8 Supercar races on the Speed channel. Those races are really cool! It's a Ford vs GM thing using these V8-powered (at least 5 ltr.) RWD 4 door sedans. They race on different road courses, and they really get with it. It's probably the closest thing to NASCAR that they've got. In fact, the new GTO that Pontiac is bringing out is really a V8 Holden, like the ones they race...Or so I'm told. I wish Ford would bring the V8 Falcon over here.

Anyway, these guys race in the rain. When rain starts, they pit and put on rain tires. The cars have windshield wipers, of course. The point is...I don't see why NASCAR can't do the same thing. Daytona would have gone the 500 miles if that were the case.

You're right about DEI cars doing well at the plate tracks, but I've heard that they put much more time into developing plate track cars than anyone else. Dale Sr. must have started that development when he was frustrated about not being able to win the Daytona 500.

That may be true, but remember there were a few times he had it only to blow a tire or hit a damn bird LOL.

Ya, DEI has a lot of time in the plate cars. I would love to see them do well but they need to put time into the "whole" program and not just the plate races.
