Do a speech on how to make beer

I had class that we renamed GeoHell. Every week you either had to write a research paper or give a presentation (not a speech) on the paper. Sometimes we would have to edit down a previous paper by 20%. I got an A- in the class. Even though it was a HUGE pain in the ***, I learned a lot about how to communicate with others both verbally and in writing.
Now I am very critical of other people when talking in front of an audience. I sat in on a video conference yesterday where this chicky was telling about a conference she had gone to. I know very little of what she said, I was too busy counting her uhhs and umms - 152 in 15 minutes, which averages out to an uhh or umm every 6 seconds.

Here are a couple of tips:
be very concious of uhhs and umms, if you catch yourself, start your sentence over.
if someone asks you a question, repeat the question before you answer it. Most people can't hear the question when it is first asked.

You need to be able to include all the information when giving a speech like the origins of beer. I had to do a similar speech and I thought about that topic, but I had a 5-7min limit and when I did some research there was too much info and I woulda been WAAAAY over time. Just remember it doesn't take too long to make a 5-7 min speech. In all my senior design courses when we had to design and build something then present progress presentations as well as a final 20 min presentation. I actually had to cut ALOT out of my 20 min presentation and it just flew by.

The orgin of Beer by Green_98

Many times, as I have disposed of biological waste product
that was once my favorite of beverages, the almighty beer,
I wondered to myself what was the orgin of this wonderful
nectar from the gods. I decided to uncover it's orgin by
tracing back the journey of this sweet rain of delight.
Turning quickly, I exited the Men's Room of the Busted Knuckle
Tavern Inc and headed back to the dorm where I had borrowed
this last quantity of liquid fortune from the fridge of my
roommate, unbeknownst to him. His fridge was empty just as
I had left it. Hearing him approach I hid in the closet
watching deftly. He opened the fridge, let out wail of curses
most of which was unintelligible, though I did pick up my
name a few times. He then rifled though my sock drawer helping
himself to my stash of change. He left, and I followed at
a distance, quite deftly. Crossing the street, he entered the
7-Eleven, but why? When he emerged he was holding a 12 pack.
Eureka! My detective work had paid off!
I had discovered the orgin of Beer!

("uh....how much time I got left....oh...")
So, anyway after I discovered the orgin of beer, I was able
to scarf up most of that 12 pack after my roommate passed out
and I did it deftly.

That is a whole lot of uhhs and umms It bothers the heck out of me when I have to listen to someone else in my speech class give a speech and they say uhh or umm after every freaking sentence.

That speech topic is hilarious

how about the rising number of people driving trucks or suv, how the oil market is involved, mpg, insurance, security of big vehicle, sports truck market, lightning, ss , dodge, dodge hemi and the marketing of it. how many are sold every years as compared to 10 years ago , pros - cons. every guy and most of the girls either want or have one. how the hp keeps rising compared to 10 or 20 tears ago.

when interviewing for a job the beer speech isnt going to sound to good unless you interview at budweiser.

Green_98,

That would be cool to meet up, but there is one small difficulty. I am studying abroad this semester in London, England. I live about 2 minutes away from William Jewell, it is a decent college, but I did not want to go to school in my home town, so I go to school in Iowa at a college that is about the same size. I had an idea for your speech though, have you ever seen the movie Van Wilder? You should at least do your speech or the whole thing on the difference between light and dark beer, not really a "how to", but you could incorporate it into somethign else I am sure. Do you have MSN or AIM? If so, what is your screenames? It woudl be nice to talk together since we have the missouri thing in common.

For Green_98

Green_98 That is weird that we have such a coincidence. I just bought my truck in August, and from looking at the title, it came from some town in upper Missouri, I don't remember where. I cannot afford to get new wheels for it, but I have looked at some catalogs anyways for new wheels. I am more interested in getting a access cover tonneau cover (www.accesscover.com). I looked at toolboxes last fall, but decided I would rather have the bed space since I have the short box. Then I found out about the access cover. My truck is "Pacific Green", what color is yours? Probably the same. I should be home this summer, and we can figure someting out. I get back May 10. I will add you to my AIM and MSN and we can talk soon.

I don't know if this helps but...

I wrote a paper about the growth of American beers in the Canadian beer market for one of my international affairs classes in college. It wasn't very long and I really didn't think much about it but I guess the professor did because he talked about it during class. I guess I lucked out because I focused on trade issues that he wanted to talk about in class.

The history of beer is long and seems difficult to fit into your time limit. The impact of NAFTA or other trade regulations on the price of beer in your local store could fit in your time limit, interest your audience and show your professor you were taking the topic seriously. I did most of my research in periodicles so I wasn't going through loads of nasty regulatory books.

Hey almost 20 years ago I did a speech on "Are Bald Men Really Sexy?" I used lots of humor in my topic. I had interviews from Playboy and Hustler magazines that had the models interviews and how they felt about bald men. It had the entire audience rolling in the aisles. I got 3 A's on it. Content, Presentation, and Supporting references. The best part for me came at the end where I disproved the hypothetis and ended by saying that Bald men aren't sexy, they're just bald. My Professor was bald and all through my presentation he just sat there cheesing...right up till the end. He turned completely red, and Couldn't say a word...
It was a lot of fun.
