Help with looking for f-150

I'm looking to replace my tired old ranger. 120k on the clock and it's time to move on. I still want a truck to drive every day. I would like to get a 97+ body style f-150. I know I want a supercab, 4x4, auto. Third door would be nice but how many came this way? Secondly is engine, what were the 4.6 and 5.4 rated at during these years? What were the changes amomngst the years? The years i'm looking into buying are 1997-1999. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Also I was thinking of poss towing the cobra with it but not sure what the towing limits were with these trucks, but guessing I'd need the 5.4 right?

Hello, and I do not think you need a 5.4 to tow the Cobra. I have a 97 with the 4.6 and it tows beautifully, but it depends on how far you are towing, and what the road conditions are (hills and such).Starting in 1997, every super cab truck made had the third door (As far as I know, if I am wrong, correct me), and I think it was the model year 2000 when they went to the 4 door design (again, I may be wrong on the year).
I will let someone else field the exact ratings of the engines from year to year, because I just don't know. Good luck, and I hope you find the truck that you are looking for!

1 thing i noticed

About how much does it cost replacing those chrome side view mirror covers? I see quite a few trucks with the chrome mirrors. Which models have them painted looks like lariat's and some xlt, is this correct?

DLN...I have the 5.4 with the towing package, and I'm glad I bought it that way. I'll pull an 18' trailer (2200 lbs.) and by the time its loaded there's probably close to 6000 lbs. back there. As you know, there's a lot of trucks for sale near us, so finding what you want shouldn't be a problem. This summer come to my place and we can consume a few 'adult beverages'. I live near Bethel.

Sounds like you need a 97 or up with the 5.4. Now other options such as ex-cab, bed size, color, 4 or 2wd, and trim level-thats up to you

Do you have any good ideas on where to find some good trucks locally? So far I'm just browsing cars.com and autotrader.com as well as picking up an automart every few weeks.

also a bump to the top, if any one else can help out with engine info please do.

Thanks
