Talk about over-reacting. Geesh. No vehicle is 100% safe.

Don't we wish. Nowadays they buy vehicles from different companies just to be fair (political BS) so there are plenty of cops out there. Sounded nice though to go on a rampage..

Very political... Very Very Political...

And you know what... it's scary too. Like was mentioned before, NO VEHICLE is 100% safe. They're public servants... no, I don't think they should be out there in something that is a walking hell hole that is asking for trouble but, on the flip side, they shouldn't be so incredibly worried about the Crown Vic either...

Just my opinion....

Why shouldn't they be worried about the known Crown Vic problem? It's not as bad, but anyone remember the Pinto? Let's think about how police cars are parked during a traffic stop, usually sticking out a little bit more than the person they pulled over...to protect them as they stand nearly in the roadway while other motorists and the occasional drunken a$$hole flies by at 60-70 mph.

If and when that Crown Vic gets hit from behind at that speed and the tank ruptures (which they have) and metal on metal crunching sparks and ignites the gas flowing from the rupture (which it has on several occasions) think about the additional lives put at risk...would you want to be the guy that the trooper pulled over and have a potential hand grenade rammed into the back of your car at 60mph?

Cop's need to stop crying about it. To bad for the dumb shi* pulled over, if he/she had been following the law they wouldn't have to worry about a "time bomb".

Like RockPick said its basically political. Nothing is 100% safe, hell if the cops are so worried about it then they should go out and buy some racing suits, there flame retarded so that would give them time to get out no problems, buy a nice helmet with some cool flames on the side. I think that would look pretty cool...

Funny...I haven't heard any cab drivers complaining, and most of them drive Crown Vics. If I remember right, the Pinto gas tank thing was 'brought to light' (no pun intended) by lawyers trying to make fast bucks. I met one of the lawyers in court that brought the class action against GM for the exploding side-saddle gas tanks on their pick ups a few years back, what an arsehole! All they did was get rich on that one.

your right is not just crown vics. i bet it is the same lawyers that litigated the whole firestone thing.

does anyone remember all of the returned dodge intrepids?!?!?!? i believe it was in the thousands! the story came from the south where it is hot and a bunch of police agencies wanted something other than crown vics so they bought an s load of intrepids. the problem was that at idle in the hot sun say at a road block they would just burst into flames!! there was no fix so all of the cars were bought back! all intrepids have plastic gas tanks that sit right above the muffler!

They're busy working on the "new" suits. First there were cars, then tobacco, now it's Brittney Spears action figures.. Something about them being too top heavy. N.O.W is enraged.

Ok, I know that all you guys really like to cop bash, but think about it. You leave your beautiful family to go to work, you see someone with a headlight out. You decide to pull the car over and warn the driver that his light is out and that the deer are out and it is very dangerous to drive with one headlight. The driver thanks you and WHAMMO some dumb a$$ runs into your car from behind and it bursts into flames. You think to yourself, I'm sure glad that I wasn't sitting in there. Anyway, I have not been in that situation and hope that I am never there. But I don't think that the police officers should have to take a bunch of garbage form people about their cars. It is scary enough out there with out the fear of getting blown up in your car.

I have been a police officer for about 5 years now and hope to be for along time to come. I try to treat people with respect and expect it in return. Please cut those guys a break, they will be the ones to save your butt when it's in a jam.

01 XLT Sport, nice truck, I bet it draws alot of attention..HE HE.. I'll be looking for you...Just kidding

Everyone stay safe in the new year to come,
Mike

I did a little research into the Crown Vic problem and it seems a lot of the problems have been traced back to the fact that there are no standards for installation of a police package in these cars and some of the aftermarket people that install these police packages have not been of the highest quality. Seems that safety wasn't at the top of some of the installer's list or really well thought out by the manufacturers of these police accessories. So these cars are being made unsafe by the installation of these police packages.

Speaking of Illinois cops. This past summer I went back to the Chicago area (a very nice.. unamed suburb town) to visit friends that I haven't seen since H.S. Anyhow, 01:30 and just driving out of a girl's house I just met and saw flashing lights with 2 patrol cars and this chick in the middle of the road. I was just curious and stopped to see what happened. Big mistake!

One of them swings around and pulls right behind me. The usual driver's license, insurance... He tells me to not do that anymore since it might not be safe for them b/c they don't know who's stopping and whether they have guns or what not. Perfectly understandable, I'll agree with that.

But then the cop proceeds to ask me what I'm doing in Chicago, why I'm there, why I'm out so late, where I'm going, coming from, who I'm going to see... I tell him that I just came out of this girl's house and he asks me what her name is and where does she live. So I'm like yeah right I'm not going to tell you what her last name is or where she lives why should I. (We were right in front of her house lmao. It's on a huge area of land) That's personal information and I wouldn't tell you even if I wanted to.

He asks me why I'm not telling the truth and what do I have to worry about. I told him that I understand his point of view but that he shouldn't assume that I'm some criminal just because I refuse to give out personal information about my friends and myself. That's when it got interesting.

He threw a fit and I suppose that he was already pissed b/c I have a Texas license but the Concorde rental car was from Wisconsin lmao so he couldn't pull up anything on me. So the cop then just wrote me up for the only thing he could think of: parking illegally on the side of the road or some stupid stuff like that.

Well, long story short, there are waayy too many cops up north. The ticket is on my wall and it will be a while before I can go back to Illinois lol.
