99 F250 5.4l

I was hoping someone could help me. I'm looking at purchasing a 99 F250 XLT. I am going to be using it to tow a fifth wheel 24' trailer. I was wondering if anyone has had good/bad experiences with them and what kind of rear end did they \ should be in them? I need a ton of info and I'm going to be looking on this message board as well. I just don't have the time at the moment to really take the time and look. That is why I'm also asking here just in case I miss something. I don't mean to lazy or anything but any and all post's would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Darren

5.4 should be able to handle that pretty well. I beleive you can get a 4:10 rear end with the 5.4 I would definatley suggest that, and also look at a stick. I think that would help. I had the 5.4 in a 00 250 4x4 company vehicle last year and it was ok. I dont think you would encounter any horrible issues towing that. Although if your not a diesel fan I would also suggest looking at a V10.

250 with 5.4L & 4.10 rear end in rated at 8800lbs, V10 is a $600 upgrade and fairly easy to find and will pull a house off it's foundation.

I pull a 5th wheel trailer with an empty weight of 7500 lbs. Adding the weight of the hitch, stuff and passenger--I'm close to the 8600 lb. limit for this truck ('97 F-250 ld SC 5.4 liter--3.73 ls). I wish I had more power. It's ok for much around here in Texas--but was in 1st gear 4900 rpm at 30 miles per hour going up mountains in Colorado. I'd get the V-10.

V10!! =D

Um, no. hehe The V10's are WAY too much of a gas guzzler for my liking. If I was towing a 30' or so I would seriously consider it. The only V10 that I found up here was a 2000 1 ton and they wanted WAY too much for it. I just got back from purchasing the 99. I take delivery of it sometime next week. I can't wait.. it'll be my first 4X4 in awhile. I hope it doesn't let me down...

Thanks for all the info and advice. I really appreciate it.
