Getting ready to buy
Yup, im getting ready to buy an F-250SD (98-2001) and have a few questions. When were 4-wheel disc brakes standard? Are there any particular problems i should watch out for? I'll be getting a gasoline engine. It doesn't really make a difference to me whether or not i get the V8 or V10. I'm wanting a manual tranny, but those are hard to find so i'll probably end up getting the automatic tranny. So, pretty much i just want some pointers on trouble spots to watch out for.
Also, this is just a general question, but how or where do you get a 5th wheel hitch at? Does Ford put on in or is that an aftermarket thing?
thanks

I've got a '00 SD, so I can't answer too much about the 99 and 99.5 models. I do have 4 wheel disc brakes, std in '00. 4 wheel antilock brakes were available in '00, std Lariat, optional XLT. The pre '00 V-10 were rated at 275 HP and the '00 up V-10s are 310 HP. Transmissions can be a weak point, look for signs of overheating. 5th wheel hitch should be available from any RV place. The SD is very popular for such applications.

If you are going with the fifth wheel dont over look the Power stroke!!!!
This will get you the best fuel economy of the three anyway!!!
I am setting mine up to tow a 5th wheel and you have to take in account the stopping ability as well as tow power...
I get 20mpg regularly...
My SCREW will struggle to do that!!!!
