What kind of real world MPG's with the new 6.2 gas engine?

Hey man just telling you 430s are bad idea, been in trucks with them and at 70mph the trucks were screaming. You cant take off without peeling out and slide around in the winter. And you will get 10mpg. If you think thats cool and can justify it, go for it. Not saying I go 80 but if need arises I would like a vehicle that can go 80-90mph. And definitely dont want to go down the highway at 55 to get good mpg.

Yeah even 410's are killer a higher speeds. But a big difference between 410 and 430's

Compare these charts, I hope they clear things up a bit:
2012 F250
6.2 6R140 4.30 265/70/17 (31.6")
1992 F250
5.8 C6 4.10 285/35/16 (31.7")

You're comparing apples to carrots here. I'm not sure you understand what a great factor an overdrive ratio of .67 is to cruising rpm at speed. The 6.2, 6R140, and 4.30 combination are not like the pickups of previous generations that were screaming at 70mph.

I don't think he really knows/understands that much about gearing..?
I have 4.56's in a 04 F150 SCab 4.6 2wd with 32" tires and can still break the 100mph mark if I want to. At 70-75 my truck isn't "screaming".. 90+ is a different story though. The Sierra Nevada range is an easy task for my truck now and my transmission doesn't cuss me every time I step on the throttle anymore.. I average 12MPG driving like an a-hole.

Thanks for educating me on newer gearing, and it looks like newer trannys and computers can make them work better. I still dont understand the need for anything higher than 3.73's heck even F250's now only have 331 and can tow a ton. Im sure there are some uses but the highest I would ever go would be 3.93s above that waste of time and money unless you have some speciality work that needs to be done.

Keep in mind that I only mentioned the optional 4.30 gears because I would want to run at least a 35 inch tall tire. I was taking into account that a F-250 with 4.30 gears would not have to be regeared. Most of the F-150 owners running 35's seem to go with 4.56 gears if they regear at all.

Wandell, I have a 2011 F250 Screw 6.2L 6 3/4 FX4 Lariat. It is all stock. Unfortunately I am not sure of the gearing and I am in Afghanistan so I can't look at it. (I think it is 3.73) I bought it in April 2010. It now has about 34,000 miles on it. I traded in a 2005 F150 with 35" tires and 4" lift. I traded it because the F150 towed my boat like crap. I went with the F250 because I think they have sally'ed the F150 down pretty bad. I just dont think it looks very truck like anymore. All that being said, I get between 12-14 per mile driving in the city(closer to the upper 12's and low 13's). I dont do a LOT of highway driving so I would assume it would be a couple more per gallon.
With ALL that being said, I posted under the tire forums what was the largest tires I could put on my truck without making any adjustments. I do agree that the stock tires look small on the truck. So, maybe somebody can help me out and tell me a good size meatier tire that wont kill the truck perrformance but also look better.

13.6 pretty constant on the mpg dash output. I don't know why you would wan't to lift it. There extremely high already. Ride for me is quite bumpy but I do prefer bieng up high and it's nice being able to throw whatever you want in the bed ie: a full load of dirt, a skid of shingles or salt whereas not with a F150. And, I plow so, I need a F250. Plus, I think I'm pretty safe if I get into an accident. Scab 6.5 bed.
