Chipped or Not

My 1999 PSD is no race car but is considerably quicker than the 2000 PSD we just got at the dealership. Both sound about the same at idle but mine has alot more whistle sound above 2000 rpm. When you whomp the throttle on the 2000 PSD I hear the turbo but the momentum is very relaxed. On my 1999 PSD the turbo is louder and you feel the pickup more seat of the pants wise. My 1999 also shifts firmer.

Well in any case both were work trucks. Mines a 4wd the other is a 2wd. There are no stickers or aftermark indications on either of any chipping or engine mods not even a K&N air filter.

How can I tell if mine has been modded or is just a luck issue. I assume my 1999 is not chipped because at WOT I dont see any black smoke.

Thanks

Chris

Look at your PCM and see if there is anything plugged into it. There could be issues with the 2000 truck. Also, is your truck an early99?

Yes its a early 99 but i have read that they were less powerful than the 99.5 and up PSDs? Is the PCM under the hood I think it was there in my previous 2005 F150 as i remember sending it to roush once?

Early 99s have a different turbo wheel that whistles louder... you have the "wicked wheel" style wheel from the factory. Your PCM is behind the e-brake, behind that plastic panel.

Found the PCM it in some sort of plastic frame. Looks to be unscrewed but otherwise cant tell unless I remove plastic frame that is attached. Wicked wheel style sounds cool but not quicker than a 2000. Just curious

Thanks for the info
