Alright so

I can't afford the 400 bucks the dealer wants to change the plugs. So I'm doing it myself. Any last minute tips you guys have? I'm doing this on a 2005 F350 with a 3v 6.8L...Thanks for any help!

I'm a ford tech. Get the engine warm and use a 3/8 air ratchet to remove them. The constant motion of the air ratchet pulls them out smoothly. Using a hand ratchet starting and stopping causes the most breaks in my experience.

I know MTM Ford recently did his plugs on a 5.4 3V and he ordered the removal tool from Amazon and said it was well worth the money he paid for it. And I would follow bnehila's advice.

Man that would feel scary taking a air ratchet to the spark plugs. Worth a shot though. Thanks guys!

That's not how the TSB says to do it - just saying. Not trying to diss a Ford tech.

Do what you guys want. Just lending a helping hand. I get trucks towed in after someone tried to put their own plugs in. Doesn't hurt my feelings. Just fattens my wallet. I know what works for me an I do them all the time.

If that's what works for you, why don't you submit that up your chain for a revised TSB?

A few years ago, when I was a Ford tech, there was a thing where you could submit things like that. I can't remember what it was called but I did get paid for a couple by Ford. I wouldn't count on seeing it as a revised TSB though, but you never know...

Especially since they redesigned the heads and plugs in 08. So it's no longer an issue.
