what can you tell me about the v6 powerstroke?
what can you tell me about the v6 powerstroke?
I've been looking into the 4.5L v6 powerstrokes that they put into the lcf cab overs. From what I've read the put out 200hp, and 440 ftlbs of torque and they get pretty good milage. I believe its linked to a torque shift five speed, but was only avaliable in a 2wd. It wieghs around 725lb to 750lb.
Has anyone tried fitting one of these into a half ton f150. I didn't even know the motor existed untill a month ago and I've sat on top of this idea since then.
The only other thing I know is I can't come across any of these motors used. The whole truck can be bought for $9000 with 100,000 miles. But that is all I've found. I can't seem to find a site that prices the motor either.
I've kinda hit a dead end so if anyone could give me some more info on these little diesels, or point me in the direction of someone who has tried this swap?

Guess I'm not the only one.....
I have been wanting to swap a 4.5 into my Expy forever, but it would cost an arm and a leg.
Most commonly I have seen just your oil rail o-rings blown out, causing a no start. They eat injectors ofcourse, and HPOPs.... I have not seen a major failure though... Good motor IMO, just goodluck in communicating with it... ServiceMaxx SUCKS ***

This has been talked about off and on since that motor came out in 07 I think. Its always the same story, somebody hears about the engine and thinks it'll swap into his F150 or Expedition. The problem that was mentioned is that it won't be a cheap swap. The engine and trans won't be cheap, then trying to get the PCM on the truck and the ECU on the engine/trans to play nice isn't going to be easy either. Navistar doesn't have anywhere near the same programing that Ford would use. Usually it looks like a good idea to start with, but once you get down to it there are much easier/cheaper swaps out there for the F150/Expedition. A 3.9L 4BT Cummins with a ZF5 or 6 can be done for a fraction of the cost the 4.5L. If you know what you're doing its not that difficult to get the 4BT above 200hp.
