Dodge 6.7 vs Ford 6.7
It all depends on what you're gonna be doing with it, and need vs. want. Do you need a diesel, or just want one?
I see at least 50 HD trucks pulling horse trailers at barrel races every weekend. These people are regularly pulling trailers in the 10-15k lb range. Most are Cummins Dodges, a few Powerstrokes, and a couple Duramax. Before I bought my F250 I asked around to see how everyone liked their trucks. Most were happy with their trucks, but one thing I noticed was there were Powerstroke and Duramax drivers that said they would buy a Cummins next time, but ZERO Cummins guys that said they would buy a PS or Duramax next time.
That's why my trucks a V10. When I get a bigger trailer and NEED a diesel, it'll be a Cummins.

Diesel or Not
I think StandupEd is probably right. However, being a man, I am entitled to exercise irrational behavior. It runs in the family. My brother has five trucks. One Diesel and four gas. Three are four wheel drive. My neighbor across the street has a four year old Dodge Diesel and he doesn't even have a hitch on it. Anyway unless an unbelievable deal on an older diesel shows up I will stick with my F-150.
i also love how everyone bashes the Cummins when you can get a Ford with one if you go either 650 or 750
dodge makes junk and puts a decent motor in a platform that falls apart most people i talk to only bought their dodge just because they wanted a cummins and usually regret the dodge part
i personally think the Cummins is over rated and hope the Ford 6.7 Powerstroke lives up to the rep
Mulally and Fields haven't let us down yet in the past 2 years. This engine will be no different. It will be class leading in power, efficiency, longevity and quality.
I agree...i know a few people with cummins, 2 of them blew up and the other one has nothing but electrical probs. personally i will stick with my powerstroke and i have a 03 6.0 no problems out of it 98,000 miles and counting...
the Ford 6.7 is common rail as well, so is the International/Navistar 6.4

:santa:
thats exactly what 6.4s do unfortunatly. run like a top one day and the next melted down. Injector failures are a pretty much gauranteed melt down on the 6.4 and sadly there is no warning sighns. Each cylinder/injector has its own fuel trim and even when an injector is stuck wide open the PCM compensates enough that the truck will seem to run perfect, when in reallity it is in whats called a "controlled run away" condition. Temps get so high the piston actually melts...
IMO, Dodge has made HUGE strides in every aspect of building cars/trucks. They've really came along way starting around 2002/2003 especially. They don't fall apart no more, they're built just as good as the Ford trucks, if not better. Thier interiors are just as nice or nicer forsure.
*Don't get me wrong, i love the look of the F-250's best, but imo they need to stop building these stupid piece of junk v8 diesels! No "REAL" diesel truck uses a v8, they all use I-6 engine. Dodge is the only one that uses a "real" diesel engine. They don't use powerchokes in the F-650's, they use cummins or cat!* I might own a 7.3 just bc i like fords and it's a decent motor, but that would be my last pick, def take any Dodge 3/4 or 1ton over the Fords.
Hate to say it, but if you want a truck that's going to be a reliable, workhorse and not just a "pretty truck" go with the cummins.
When i get a diesel i'm gonna look for an old 12v. I know a guy with an 89 12v Cummins, he has over half million miles on it and never had a single problem from it. Cummins makes awesome engines and Dodge has came a long way and is starting to make awesome trucks.
Although i hear there spliting off and Dodge won't produce trucks anymore, There will be a RAM "brand" that makes the trucks i think. I think dodge isn't going to use the "Ram" emblems any more the "RAM" brand will for ALL pickups and commercial vehicles.

Plus the thread is about the Dodge 6.7 vs the new Ford 6.7...so it's kinda hard to bash a product that hasn't come out..

Bottom line is that this new Ford 6.7 engine is do or die for Ford. Because now they have noone to blame but themselves. And if this engine doesnt live up to the hype and becomes as troublesome as the Navistar 6.0 and 6.4 Ford will soon be last in the diesel segmant.
The Dodge truck itself is cheap - the Cummins is the ONLY good thing about it. I have seem a few 7.3 PSD's with over 500k miles too so that isn't saying much

Yeah, New Dodges are built cheap, thats obviously why it's 2010 truck of the year.

All you can say, is that it's built cheap. IMO, they are no llonger built cheap. They've came a longway.
My point was...
in short it's not hard to "bash" bc.... it's a v8, inline-six is a real diesel motor. That's all i need to know. I can guarantee the motor won't be as good. They didn't have a motor to compete with the 5.9 when their wasn't any emissions bs, what makes you think it will be any different now? Ford has the better lookin truck i believe by a slim margin, but i think thats it.
The Ford 6.7 isn't tested enough, it's prolly going to have problems
