Dodge 6.7 vs Ford 6.7

So who will buy a 2011 Ford F-250 Diesel vs a Dodge 6.7 Cummins? Ford has not been building diesel engines but Cummins has been doing it for years. I drove a new Dodge last week. The truck was ugly but ran great. I have yet to drive a Ford F-250. So what is the best way to go?

your not going to get any realistic answers yet...the Ford is yet to be released and it will be at least a year untill it has any reputation at all. But I agree on never buying a first year production unit. Wait untill the 2012s come out and make your decision then.

I have the first year of the 6.4 and have had no problems at all. The Dodge may have a better engine, but the truck itself is not made as well. You will never be happy with a Dodge.

2008 superduty 64 TSBs in total
2009 superduty 23 TBSs in total

Just an example of how many bugs get worked out in one production year.

It all depends on what you're gonna be doing with it, and need vs. want. Do you need a diesel, or just want one?

I see at least 50 HD trucks pulling horse trailers at barrel races every weekend. These people are regularly pulling trailers in the 10-15k lb range. Most are Cummins Dodges, a few Powerstrokes, and a couple Duramax. Before I bought my F250 I asked around to see how everyone liked their trucks. Most were happy with their trucks, but one thing I noticed was there were Powerstroke and Duramax drivers that said they would buy a Cummins next time, but ZERO Cummins guys that said they would buy a PS or Duramax next time.

That's why my trucks a V10. When I get a bigger trailer and NEED a diesel, it'll be a Cummins.

I can't imagine that Dodge is going to make a better truck given it's financial status and bail out needs. The Cummins is decent, but if the rest of the truck is failing around the engine, forget it. Overall, Ford (bailout free) makes a more impressive and reliable package

Hope the 6.7L 's the competition - we'll see

:santa:

Other thing about the Cummins over the Ford is that the Cummins has a common rail fuel system that will deliver more fuel when modified vs the Ford. Thus more aftermarket power.... but I could be wrong.

Not true.

Ford of Europe has had a lot of experience with diesels and IIRC, the Euro engineers had a big role in the design of this engine.

If anything, it will be more error-free than the Navistar engines

I dont think the 6.7 cummins is as reliable as the 5.9 my buddy traded his 6.6 duramax in for 6.7 cummins and it blew up a week after he got it.

Although on the new 6.7 powerstroke...Ford has some of the best diesel engines overseas, i think it will be really good...but like every first year model they are subject to lots of recalls.

Ford has always had the best 3/4 and 1 ton truck on the market, they have just never had the best engine on the market. I have pretty high hopes for the 6.7L being a good engine. I still would give them a year to work all the bugs out of it.

Cummins is a good engine, but if you live anywhere with really cold winters you'll freeze to death in your Dodge, they don't run very warm. And then of course your stuck with all the Dodge built crap wrapped around your Cummins engine aswell. I'd have a hard time bringing myself to buy a Dodge.

Id buy an old 5.9L 12v Cummins before i bought anything thats out now.

Second behind that would be a 7.3l Powerstroke, and its a distant second place.
