Unhappy

2003!!! I don't know if I can wait that long
On the other hand I did just test drive a 2000 6speed F250 diesel. Talk about a tight clutch The only thing I didn't like about it was that it was a Supercab and if I ever trade, I gotta have a crew cab The kids are getting bigger, you know!!

Right, Tina!! CREW CAB.

On the Super Duty's Ford is supposed to be offering a choice of THREE diesels.
1) 7.3l V-8 a.k.a. PSD
2) Cummins I-6 (same one as the Ram)
3) CAT V-8
I read that these will be available in 2000 on the 450,550 and the new 650/750

The 650/750 will have something like a 22-25k load capacity. All will be available in a Crew Cab.

Go to www.ford-diesel.com for a similar message board. There are several topics relating to the 2003 4.5 V6. Look for posts by beagle1 - he seems to have some great inside info.

Just received my Trailer Life magazine the other day and in it they road tested a 2500 Dodge Ram.
It had the new Cummins diesel and a 6 speed standard transmission,it did a super job pulling a good size trailer.
Ford has to get on track and start working on new motor/transmission setups. I think they have had too much glory amd press coverage, now they need to get their a__ in gear and start coming up with good motor setups, for the regular type truck person........

Ford is keeping us busy making new Superchips for these new engines! The 2000 Powerstrokes are already done, and we'll get the others done as soon as Superchips gets their hands on them.

It seems Ford is selling all they can build, and now that they finally got the right gear ratios in the automatic for 99, they have a great automatic and a great manual solution.

I second that DogCam! I wish that there was a diesel in a 1/2 ton. The only company that makes one now is Chevy, and Ill damned if Ill drive that Diesel. Almost everyone Ive talked to has many negative words for it!

I own a GM 6.5L TD and have put 52,000 almost completely trouble free miles on it. It will out run a PSD or a Dog any day. I love the whole truck! This is the second one I've owned. Didn't have a problem with the first one either.

Just a little input from a happy GM Diesel owner.

The only significant problem with the 6.5L was the injector pump made by Stanadyne went out. This was fixed completely a few years back.

Believe it! Just because you got torque doesn't mean you got me beat. You see the 6.5 wasn't designed to out-torque the competition. It runs smooth and quick. It really feels like a gas engine. I realize thats not what everybody wants but I'll tell you from my own experience that I'll blow away PSD (unmodified like mine) any time of day.
