6.0L on its way out, but is the 6.4L any better?
My father is about to get rid of his 05 F350 because of all the problems that he has had with it (injectors, strange turbo problem, and horrible mileage). It is to the point now that he doesn't trust the truck any more. So he has been looking at Dodge, Chev, and now Fords again. He ended up pricing a 2010 F350 lariat, FX4, super cab, long box, dually, 6.4L/torqshift. But he is just a afraid of the 6.4L having as many issues as his 6.0L did, and leaving he stranded on the side of the road again.
So is the 6.4L more reliable? Any issues with it to be aware of?
Thanks guys!

i've got one and the only problem i have had is a plugged EGR valve-which im sure your dad is quite used to. I have heard that the egr valves arent as prominent a problem as they are in the 6.0's
Mainstream complaints are a bad radiator in some of the early job 1's (replaced under warranty), less than stellar mileage (thanks to the EPA), and a few TSB flash updates.
I have 14k on mine and love it. This thing has a crapton of power!

I actually may have just found another possible route that my dads truck shopping may go. I was searching some classifieds and found a 2003 F350 7.3L super cab, long box, 4x4, DRW, with only 50,000 miles for only $18000. So instead of trading his 05 & spending $23,000+ on new 09 or 2010. He could buy the 03 I found, which would be a basically bullet proof truck and then sell his 05 and come out money ahead.

i work at ford and the 6.4s are junk. i have 2 short blocks to put in this week. bent rods from the egr coolers busting. but then again one was ran out of water and the other idk yet but it has a rod hanging out of the bottom. when it comes time to repair a 6.4 the cab has to come off half the time. the 7.3 was the best diesel in my opinion.

I don't have any issues with my 06 6.0 (also knock on wood) but if I were looking, I too would wait till the Scorpion comes out.
Dodge has the best engine, just a poor wrapper around it...GM would be my second pick. Duramax with an Allison is hard to beat.
The 09's and 2010's are coming with stock 3.55 rear ends do combat the poor mpg's...you need to be aware of that.

Thats exactly what I was thinking! Especially with the "tow boss" package.
Well I talked with dad about 1.5 hrs ago. He is on his way to look at the 03 F350 and if it is as nice as what it looks like in the pics and what the ad says he is bringing it home with him.

the main reason why Ford did this was to help with the poor MPG's that the good old EPA did.
