Stupid Question alert!!
I would like to get a new muffler for my 06 F250 and it seems like you can only find kits for cat backs or turbo backs. I don't want to change any back pressure, just want a different muffler maybe a different sound. Is that even possible?
The stock is massive muffler on it now, why dont' they sell just that? Or do they and I am too stupid to find it?

Of course you can - you just need a muffler shop to add/take off pipe or make finite adjustments. Here's an example of a muffler that would work:

Check varous companies and see which has a size closest to stock and go from there.

Borla makes the XR-1 mufflers/systems for diesels:

RR, not sure about the diesels, but on the 5.4 in the F150's when I went from stock muffler to a Flowmaster 50 I think it was, we installed it partially under the cab and placed the extension behind the muffler to connect back into the stock tail pipe. Had a terrrible drone sound in the cab on the interstate. So we put the extension in front of the muffler which placed it further back under the bed. Much better! Might need to consider that on your install. The stock mufflers are much longer than most aftermarket one's. I have not considered replacing it on my PSD, but will be curious as to what it sounds like when you're done. Most cat back large bore aftermarket exhaust on diesel's sound like crap IMO.
Borla also sells the XR-1 mufflers by themselves, without the entire cat-back...

the 7.3L sound good... but the 6.0L sound way better... well the turbo whistle does anyway... nothing beats the whistle of a 6.0L not cummins not the other powerstrokes not the d-max nothing... the only thing that does is in the semi's... but they aint pickups and thats what we are talking about here.
