Thanks - I'll check it out! I been thinking of a muffler that would compliment the smooth V10 and the Flowmaster 70's, Walker Dynomax, Borla or Gibson Dual cat back(same side exit - both pipes next to each other) seem good. I'm leaning more toward just a muffler so - who knows....tires first though

sorry for the slow response the forum hasn't been sending me email notices.

Anyone have any experince with running an after market muffler on a PSD?

Does it sound ok? Louder than stock or more quiet?

My manager at my old job had an 07 F350 Harley Davidson Edition with the 6.0L and he installed a turbo-back 4" exhaust with no muffler at all and it sounded great. The sound coming from the exhaust was almost like a jet engine.

I did exactly that, replaced only the muffler with a Magnaflow and deleted the cat with all stock piping. Adds that nice V8 throaty tone and is a bit louder, the muffler alone doesn't add much turbo whistle though. You will only get more of the whistle if you remove the cat as well but still no where near as much as a straight pipe.

forget the mufflers its cheaper to go with no muffler take the cats off and sell them there's platinum in them there cats!!! lol anyway...

i no a guy that had an 03 6.0L... it was the best sounding pickup i have ever heard... and he had a 4 inch outa the turbo and then went to 3.5 inch half way back... i dont know y he would do that... but it is the best sounding pickup u will ever here...
i wonder if he put the bigger into smaller so it would sound like a jet engine back there... casue all you can here at idle is air comin out the pipe... then he takes off and it is the best sounding whistle you have ever heard.

then dad had an 04 6.0L... and he did exactly what the guy i just told you about did to his... and the whistle wasnt near as much... the guy i told you about is a rhino linings dealer and a truck excesories dealer... he said that about 80% of the guys that come in and want a new xhaust just want a big one... big as you can get they say... then he starts his and they say do to mine what you did to yours... and he said that only the 03's sound like his... nothing newer... did they put a diffrent turbo after 03.5? or y would only the 03's sound really good?? something must be diffrent.

There's a different turbo somewhere in there, it has to do with the vanes on the turbo. I think one year had 9 and the other had 11, but don't quote me on that. It is true that the 03s are louder, however.

Yeah but an 03 with no muffler makes mine sound like nothing. It's nuts. The 04-07 6.0s are quieter than the 03.

Hmm... food for thought... I guess I should look for an '03 if I want to buy a used TD.

Zach, what do the extra vanes do? Are they for better use of the turbo as far as getting it to boost quicker?

You're saying you want to buy a used 6.0 03? You're nuts.

And I have no idea what they do, but I'd imagine they'd do something along those lines. I just remember hearing 2 weeks ago at the SLAPS Powerstroke mod day about how one guys 2003 6.0 was louder than another guys 2004 6.0 due to the turbo vanes.

Oh, I forgot... brain fart...

That's really interesting. I think that sounds plausible too... that's why I mentioned it. Other than that, I have no other clue as to what more vanes would do. I suppose it would be louder if the turbo was whining that much.

I have no drone at 2,000 RPM with my 5" no muffler exhaust, but then again thats on a 7.3. I don't think a 6.0 would be much/any different. Inside the cab isn't louder at all. Outside the cab is much louder. Only time I ever get a hair of drone is right at 2200 RPM when laying on the power, but its not bad.
