Question about the new diesel

Is the new 6.4L psd a twin turbo design? I have a friend who seems to think it is only gonna be a single turbo.

actually, you are both kinda wrong. it is supposed to be sequential turbos, one bigger one and one smaller.

that is what I meant if that means what I think it does. The smaller turbo helps reduce the bigger turbo's lag time or am I completly wrong. I have also heard it is for emissions.

Yes, two turbos inline with a small one for quick spool, and a larger one for the grunt.

thanks for the replies. My friend kept saying it was going to be a 6.8L single turbo because they couldn't get the inline turbos to work right.

One turbo is fixed, one is variable (like on the 6.0L). Or so I've been told.

Ford's engine is like others said. Navistar's 6.4L is a single turbo that isn't rated as high as Ford's.

What are Navistar's ratings?
Ford's is expected to be 350hp, but some people who claim to be in the know on some other diesel forums are saying that number is actually gonna be revised to be higher when the 08's hit the showrooms, kind of a marketing ploy in the HP wars of the big three. True? I don't know, only speculation is my guess.

The new V-8 platform has had more than 80,000 hours of engine testing and 6 million miles of development and validation, the results of which show impressive numbers. Thousands of hours of dynamometer testing the results of which demonstrate an exceptional improvement in fuel economy over its predecessors. By optimizing transmission and drivelines it is possible to see double digit improvements in vehicle fuel economy with the MaxxForce 7.
I hope they didn't say the same thing about the 6.0's cause we all know how that turned out in terms of reliablity and fuel economy compared to the previous 7.3, well at least the first couple years of the 6.0 anyways.
