Huge change in mileage since reflash of 05 PSD
Huge change in mileage since reflash of 05 PSD
I am posting this question for my father, since he doesn't have an account here. He has a 05 F350 SC, DRW, FX4 6.0L/torqshift running the Edge Juice with Attitude. He uses the truck for a combination of daily driving and towing a 34' 5th wheel camper. The truck used to get 15-16mpg(when it was bone stock)but now since the reflash the truck gets around 12.5 mpg running empty (no matter what Edge program or stock)and 11ish mpg towing the camper which is about 14,000lbs (which is not too bad, and no matter what program). With this being said, he doesn't "hot rod" the truck and drives it pretty easy, like most 62 year olds do. Ever since the truck got reflashed (do to a recall of some sort) the mileage with running empty just plain sucks, but towing the camper hasn't really changed!?!?!? How can this be??
He had the truck back to the dealership (where he bought the truck and also did the service) and they said that everything was ok and that was normal. Well how can it be normal when he was getting almost 16mpg and now will only get 12.5 at best?? He tried to get them to reflash the PCM again, but they wouldn't, since I am guessing that this is the problem, right??
So lets hear your thoughts on this!
Thanks Paul
Edit: Under the hood above the drivers side head light there is a "authorized modifications" sticker here is what is says, PCM, TCM, FICM recalibrated and EP sensor replaced, dated 1-31-06. Does this help at all?
We are problably going to try and disconnect the Juice this week along with the batterys, then let it sit over night. Then hook the batterys back up and have him put a some miles on, maybe 300-400, then hook the Juice back up and see what happens with the mileage then. Does this sound like the best thing to do?

Not sure about most of that stuff, but I do know you only need to unhook the negative terminal for 15 minutes to reset the PCM. Also, be sure to let it sit and idle immediately after hooking the battery back for at least 5 minutes before driving. Then take it very easy.
I would skip hooking the Juice back up as its one of the best tranny killers for the 6.0L out there. More than likely it is due to the reflash and Ford can't reflash to anything other than the most current version. You're pretty much SOL on this one from the dealer. The only thing you might be able to do is get an SCT and some of the files from Innovative Diesel which might bring back a little of the mileage.
