Maximum towing capacity?

2006 F250 with the 6 Liter...3.73 limited slip rear end...towing with receiver hitch, not a 5th wheel...auto trans

I looked on the Ford site and it seems to indicate between 12.5k and 15k??? But then I have a friend with a '95 Dodge that was saying he was told his would tow 20k+.

?????

What is the maximum weight that you tow/have towed?

I've seen loads up to 28K (this is a bit shady though with GWVR laws) no problem, but that is with gooseneck/5th wheel hitches. What are you wanting to tow?

In Low Range 4WD it will tow a 60,000lb tractor trailer, what it can do and what it is rated to do safely based on engine power, brake size, vehicle weight etc. are two different things. That Dodge may tow 20,000 lbs as will your truck, but the rating may be much less. I think the ratings for the F-250 are 15,000 for a 5th wheel trailer, 12,500 for a load distributing trailer, and 6,000 for a conventional non load distributing trailer. Those are from memory though and may not be 100% correct.

12.5k is what they list. I was just curious what other people tow. It will generally not have anything behind it, but there will be the occasional heavy load.

He may tow 20+K, but I sure as heck wouldn't want to be around. As you can see in my sig. I have the tow boss, dual rear wheel and I'm rated MAX: 15K Tongue, 19.4K Fifth Wheel. Based on what could I do ... hell, I could probably latch on to a small building and pull it off it's foundation. What have I pulled - 14K Fifth Wheel.

Ford is a more specific than that.

And that is a whole other topic. There are trucks doing 20k and more. What is safe and or legal has nothing to do with it.

Also, Dodge is lighter but their GVWR's and tow ratings are higher.
