oil used

Like I have said I'am new to the diesel owner scene. What type's of oil's are used. I have heard Rotello and Delo are some of the better choice's. What are some thought's on synthetic's? Will the oil change interval's go up in mileage that route?

I ran Rotella in my 7.3 when I had it. Most of they guys I know with the powerstrokes swear by it. Not sure if synthetics are worth the extra $$$.
I've always gone with 5k intervals for oil changes and have had zero problems.

Owner's manual says 7500.

The turbo chargers on the 6.0 engines are very very sensitive to dirty oil. Keep that in mind since they are very expensive to fix. You can change a lot of oil for the 1700 turbo replacement cost. Keep you fuel clean too, the injectors are our number one selling item over parts counters!

Shell Rotella or Motorcraft PSD spec oil. Whichever is cheaper at oil change time. I don't put enough miles on the truck the way I use it so I do seasonal changes for winter and summer.

It's important to change your oil often, and you'll notice that your oil will be sooty and thin at the end of each oil change. More importantly though.... Keep an eye on your air filter. My uncle has to change his AT LEAST every 5,000 miles. Sometimes he has to change it more often than that.

The 6.0 is tough on oil. I can't see going 7500 as Ford says. 5000 has been about it. Primary issue is shearing. Other than that, without fuel in the oil, it's in pretty good shape for a lot of miles.
