Why did ford do away with the 7.3s in the 2005+ models?

It couldn't pass emmissions. And the 7.3 was done in the F-series late 2003.

It was also the motor that Ford used in the bidding of the Military contract to replace the Hummer in '02-'04 with a Military Super Duty.
