What is the ERG Valve? And would code 170 174 come on if valve was bad? I have a 99 f250 v10 and after it warms up it starts to spudder real bad at low idle. The codes came back 170, 174. Does anyone know whats going on with my truck?

 

I think you mean EGR...EGR introduces exhaust gases into the combustion chamber to lower combustion chamber temps and reduce oxides of nitrogen (NOX) emissions.

P0170 doesn't appear to be a valid code, but P0174 is bank 2 (driver's side) lean. Maybe you're thinking P0171? Start looking for vacuum leaks, if you've got a K&N type air filter, make sure there's no gunk from the air filter oil built up on the heated wire in the mass air sensor.

 

How/ What should i do when looking for vacuum leaks? And it was p0171.

 

Dunno about a V10, but the PCV tube from the passenger's side valve cover is a common failure on 5.4 liters. Follow it from the valve cover to the throttle body. Visually inspect your vacuum lines, listen for any excessive hissing. Fortunately there aren't very many vacuum lines on these motors nowadays, so it shouldn't be too difficult to pinpoint by visual inspection.

Um, I don't mean to be rude or smartassed or anything, but you might want to consider seeking some qualified help...judging by your experience, you may wind up spending more money throwing parts at this thing instead of having it diagnosed and fixed right the first time around. Nothing against you, if I've offended you, I apologize. Just my opinion.
