New 05 F250 V10

Picked up a new 05 V10 F250 SD XLT, CC, 4x2, sport package, tow command. Few other options but that is the basics. It will be used for towing a race car and home depot runs on the weekends. Great truck so far, rides nicer than expected and is so quiet, you can't tell if the engine is running without looking at the tach. Probably the quietest vehicle I own out of five. Might have to change the muffler out to get some of that V10 sound going
Pics to follow.........

Congrats! Sounds like a nice truck. Which axle gears did you get?

Concerning the exhaust/sound...be careful. Mine's stock and staying that way. Just do some careful research before you lay down the green. From what I've read it's real easy to hurt your engine performance with the wrong setup and some of the guys on other Ford sites who've upgraded their exhaust systems have been unhappy with the sound and performance.

There seem to be some good options out there, just check around before you bite. And in the meantime, enjoy that 6.8L power. I still have a blast driving mine and you'll find you get a healthy degree of respect from other 3/4 &1 ton pickup owners on the road!

I got the 4.1 rear axle, here are a couple pics and one of them is the exhaust 2-into-1 pipe. Is this a new setup? The muffler is freakin huge but that is probably why it is so quiet.

Gas motor = smart choice.

With the price of diesel, it would take you 20 years to recoup the cost if you bought a diesel motor.

maybe...

but the power of the diesel is worth it. i dont regret it at all. besides, higher purchase price usually equals higher resale.

I have the 3.73s, which are good for mileage and daily driving but I wouldn't mind the 4.10s. They weren't available for 2003-you had the 3.73 or a 4.30 and the 4.30 seemed too low for me. The 4.10s sound just right, IMO/

Kevin,

Yeah that exhaust setup is a little different than my 2003 V10's. On mine, the downpipe fromt he driver's side manifold ties into the side of the passenger side downpipe right under the transmission pan. Then it goes into the muffler as one pipe from there. The whole system on your 2005 just looks bigger.

Nice photos, truck looks great!

As far as the diesel, if you want to spend the extra $4600 for the extra torque then that's fine. Not everybody wants to or can afford to. There's no need to justify it to the world-it's your money. The guy who started the thread is here to talk & learn about V10 trucks, not start a diesel vs. gas war. So give him some respect and don't!

wow

hillhound what is the problem here? a war between gas and diesel? i dont know what your reading into my post but its wrong. all i did was respond to the post from home skillet about the 20 year recoup cost. and by the way, i could care less what the world thinks about the cost of my truck. i hope you all have a happy Easter.

Question

Congragulations, I just picked up my new 350 V10 4x4. I am going to tow a fifth wheel with it and have noticed that it is a little too high. I measured the riser blocks that are over the axle and they were 3 1/2 inches high. Seeing that you purchased a 4X2, could you measure the blocks (if they have them) and tell me how high they are? Maybe I could put those in and lower the back.
Thanks

LLRAYV10,

Sounds like a nice truck as well. Just wanted to ask if you got a dually or single? I do know the F250's blocks are shorter than the F350's but I don't know by how much.

wave: Mine is a single rear wheel. I ordered it with 4:30 Posi. Man! This thing rocks! I wanted to make sure that I had enough towing power. . . and it does! Now if I could get this height thing resolved.
I had a 99 V10 before this one and it had 3:73,s. It was a great truck, but I got a new fifth wheel and it was a little too heavy (13k) for the 3:73,s. Actually, the 99 had 4" blocks on the back axle and I machined a pair of 2 inchers out of Aluminum for it, but they went with the truck when I traded. Now, I was wondering if they had shorter blocks on the 4X2,s or if someone sells them so I would'nt have to make them again. Thanks for inquiring.

So far I'm averaging 12.5 mpg on the first two tanks full with about 50/50 city/highway driving. I live in the mountains so it's not flat driving most of the time. Seems to like to stay in 5th running about 2k even when going up a hill unless I press it harder and then it will shift down. Its feels good even at the 2k range going up a 5-6% grade. It's got the computer controlled throttle so the pedal is not directly connected to the throttle plates which, along with the 3 valve config, probably contribute to better gas mileage.

What are the power ratings of the V-10? And roughly what did you pay, if you don't mind me asking? And how big is the aftermarket for these engines?

I believe the F250s 4x4s have 2inch blocks in the rear, and the 350s have 4 inch blocks. It should pretty easy to get some blocks for a 250 and swap them out.

The ratings for the 2000 thru 2004 V10s are 310HP & 425lb-ft

The ratings for the 2005 V10s increased to 362HP & 457lb-ft

The great thing the peak numbers don't tell you is that either version makes 94% of it's peak torque by the time the engine hits 2000rpm! The 2000 to 2004 versions make 400lb-ft @ 1900rpm and peak at 425 @ 3250rpm.
