Question

I own a 97 F-250 HD supercab 4x4. After reading some of these post I have alot of questions. This may be a new thread but I will ask anyway. My HD is the old style body, the GVWR is #8800. Is the 97 LD the newer style truck? It seems from some of the posts that the same body was on the 97 F-150 and the 97 F-250 LD.

Also I have the whine when turning, it sounds like the power steering to me. But all is functioning correctly so I ignore it.

Thanks
Mike

Thumbs up

Good News! With a GVWR of 8800# you are a Super Duty!

The Light Duty F-250 for 1999 is only 7700#.

Welcome to the board.

I've got a 99 F250 LD 4x4 supercab w/5.4 auto fully loaded, bright red clearcoat w/chrome rims tinted out windows. This is a great truck and plan on holding onto it for awhile, but coming from a 99 lightning I miss some of the performance and speed of the lightning are there any mods I can do to my F250 to increase performance.Every site I've found has mods for the F150 and nothing for the F250,any inputs would be appreciated.

JC, I double checked my book and the GVWR on my 250 LD is 8600 lbs. (5.4L, auto, 3.73, 4x2 SC)

With a different gear ratio, tranny, or engine this # can change drastically, but this set up is the max for the 250 LD.

Barlitz, nearly anything you can do to the 150 can be done to the 250. In fact the only thing I've found that I can't do is have the Ford-fix anti-bounce bar added to the rear of my truck -- evidently there are too many crossbeams for it to fit.

Some of my co-workers are convinced the 250LD is physically larger than the 150 in wdth and height. Is this true?

MOVEOVER, I've never measured but I seriously doubt it. The '99 150/250 brouchure says that everything is the same except that LH (L? Height, maybe?) is 1.1" to 1.2" higher on the 250LD. And this I know is true cuz my 4x2 250 sits higher than any 4x2 150 I've ever parked next to in a parking lot, but it's not as high as a 4x4 150.

hope this makes sense,

Jim

I think the F250 overall might be a little bigger especially the 4x4, my truck sits high off the ground and the engine compartment has a lot of room with the 5.4, as with the lightning everything fits tight even though there was a supercharger and coolant compartment for the lightning and the air box was different in the lightning but it still seems smaller than the F250 LD.I have to admit I am impressed overall with the F250 LD very smooth ride for such a durable truck.
