Post Attn: Spaceace.....K&N question!

Spaceace,

I saw on another thread you posted a picture of (assuming it's yours) a V-8 gas motor with the K&N air filter. I noticed your K&N is exposed, and does not have the oval air assembly surrounding the filter. I purchased the K&N filter for my V-10, which is the exact same part number. When I installed it I just replaced the stock filter with the K&N, and put the air box assembly back together. Do the V-8s come without this assembley or did you remove it yourself? If you removed it, may I ask why, and what are the advantages/disadvantages of doing it this way? I want to do whatever will give the the most out of the K&N but don't want to remove the oval air box assembly if it will do more harm than good. Thanks.

I decided to cut the 2 some odd inch snorkle off the end of the housing and inlarged it to 4" using flexable aluminum ducting. It follows the stock route to the front of the grill to pick up cooler air. (Banks uses a mod like this as part of their Stinger/Power Pac kits) There were no noticable gains to be had. Unless there is some really noticable gains to be had, I wouldn't mess with things.

I concur. No noticeable gains.

I did basically the mod listed here, http://216.167.31.120/tech/airbox.html
except with custom aluminum mount. Not having the box over it cant hurt.
