Exclamation 2x4 wheel bearings

Happy New Year gang! I was rotating my tires this past weekend and noticed some play in the front end. The bearings were loose. I popped off the cap and was able to re-adjust the nut about a 1/2 to whole turn. It wasn't until later that I discovered that Ford recomends to adjust the bearings at 30K according to the maintenance schedule booklet. I highly recomend everyone looking into this. The play was about 1/8th inch. Probably enough to cause drivability problems and tire wear.

I would also repack the bearings if you have not already. Those bearings put up with some heavy loads, give 'em fresh grease

brought to you by bearings without partners

Be sure to not overtighten. I don't have the manual for the F-series trucks, but for my Ranger the procedure is:
1. Tighten adjusting nut to 17 to 25 footpounds
2. back adjusting nut 1/2 turn
3. tighten adjusting nut to 10 to 15 IN lbs. (thats about 1 footpound), which aint much.
4. install lock and cotterpin
