Post 250 or 350?

I was set on the SD 250. Now my buddy has informed me that the 350 is not much more money and the payload rating is higher...a major difference actually between the 250 and 350. I don't do much hauling, but it's the big bad truck thing that's making me want a 350 now. Other than payload, what other major differences can I expect with a 350? Ride quality, gas mileage, costs of parts when it does come time for service...etc. Basically any additional maintenance costs and performance items that the 250 does not need/have, I'd like to know about. If anyone has any input I'd appreciate it! Assume a Supercab, V10, 4X4, 5speed. Also, which rear gear ratio would you recommend?

Thanks!
Mike

I'm sorta in the market for a Superduty too, and I pre-ordered mine on www.fordvehicles.com site, the F-350 is about 5-6k more than a 250. I would go with a 3:73LS Du302... I want to get a F-250 Supercab longbed 4x4 with a PSD and a auto!

This has been talked about numerous times over at http://www.ford-diesel.com/ and the only thing anyone can come up with is the F-350's have higher rated springs. That's if you stick with SRW's.

If you don't tow or haul anything I would go with the 250. It is lighter, therefore will have just a tad better gas mileage. The 250 I believe rides a bit better also.

One difference I have found is that you can only get ABS on the 250. 350 doesn't offer it. I did both on ford's buyer connection and by the time I add the $$ for the abs on the 250, the same equiped 350 costs VERY close to the same without the abs. I think I'm going 350.

DU302,

What state do you live in? Registration costs every year? Where I live it's approximately $88 for a 250 and $153 for a 350.

Wow, that's crazy! I live in Pennsylvania. Where do you find this info out? I don't think it will hold me back from the 350, but I would like to find out the difference now. Is there a website or something?

Thanks fast4.6....been there done that! That's how I found that ABS is not optional on the 350.

DU302,

Well hello fellow overcharged resident !

I just dropped mine to 3/4 ton to pay lower registration. Left the #3 on the windshield to keep the cops from noticing if I just happen to be overweight.

Don't hold me to these reg prices. Any DOT office can give them too you.

car -$36
class 1....0-5000#.....$54
class 2....5001-7000#..$81
class 3....7001-9000#..$153

DU302,
I do some pretty good hauling and towing and have yet to touch the limits of the 250. Although the 350 was not much more money plus you had the bragging rights in the "mine's got a higher number then your's" category, I stuck with the 250 anyway and put the extra cash into my limited slip. :-)
