250 or 350?
I think you summed it up J-C. The 250 can tow more, and the 350 can carry more. But the 350 cost more, is heavier (lower MPG's)rides harsher and in most states will cost more to register. Also the 350 will most likely be more expensive to insure. So, unless you definitely need the extra payload capacity, stick with the 250.
J-C,
The registration is a yearly $720?
I'll stop bitching. Even with my state inspection, registration and enhanced emissions(treadmill test)it costs $156-200, for a 250/350 for the year.

Annual RIP-OFF (part of that $720 is "Personal Property Tax" - I think that actual "registration" is around $180)
The Good News is that you only have to pay for a Smog Check every other year, if your vehicle is new enough. Only $59 - used to be $19.99 until the State added their "cut".
I'm sure glad I'm retiring and will be free to move to any State that offers the best tax and fee breaks. So far, South Dakota looks like my future home. With lower registration fees, NO State Income Tax, and lower insurance costs, the first year's savings will pay for the move

Does anyone have any numbers for the curbweight of the 250 and 350 supercab 4x4's? Or any 250 vs 350? I can't find any and I'm curious just how much difference in weight there is. Some guys on ford diesel.com say that through their own calculations, they figure that there is only a 12 pound difference between the two. I would think that there is more than that, but just how much?
Mike
Mike
I'm leaving CA because of the RIP-OFF the DMV calls "Registration".
My F-250 SD CC renewal notice came with a special notice regarding the "25% Reduction" and they only wanted $720.
But... It is cheaper in AZ (or nearly anywhere else
)
Regarding the 250 vs 350.
Besides heavier springs the 350 also has heavier rear axle, differential and frame.
Because of this, the F-350 weighs more "empty" than a 250 and with the same GCVW it can actually tow LESS than a 250.
That's why I got the F-250 SD. I was interested in towing capability NOT payload capacity.
