Question 29 Gallons?

The new 2000 F250, Super Duty, Crew-cab, 6 1/2' bed I now own comes with a 29 gallon fuel tank. Considering the monster is rather thursty and there is plenty of space under the frame, why such a small fuel tank?

Anyhow, if you have a suggestion where to find a replacement fuel tank that is larger (45 gallons?), I sure would appreciate it. I have considered "auxilary" fuel tanks, but why take up useful bed space when there is so much room underneath?

Thanks,
Alan

Get the longbed. If you want, get some aftermarket dual side tanks.

There are two "replacement" (not auxiliary) tank options that I'm aware of for the 29-gal tanks that come on the F250/350s with crewcab and short wheel base.

Aero Enterprise, Inc. www.aerotanks.com
Transfer Flow, Inc. www.transferflow.com

Both are 50-gal tanks that simply replace your existing tank. I'm not absolutely sure, but I don't think either impacts your spare tire mount.

Aero's tanks have been available for some time. The info I've seen in the forums at ford-diesel.com and edmunds.com indicate they hang down lower than the stock models; reducing vehicle clearance beneath the tanks.

Transfer Flow's tank should be available in about 3 weeks (based on a phone conversation I had with them yesterday). They will initialy debut a diesel version, followed soon after by a gasoline version (They've had more demand for the diesel version).

The approximate cost for both brands is $670. Both manufacturers will install them (if you happen to be in California). Flow Transfer also has a network of installers around the country that are approved to install their tanks.

Hi Guys..

If you look, there is lots of room in front of the tank. I think Ford didn't make the tank longer because it would be next to the cat. You'd think they could shield it somewhat and offer a bigger tank. I wonder if there is a way to fit the 44 gallon Excursion tank under there? LOL

Talking

When I told my friend it only held 29 gallons, he suggested mounting a 55 gallon drum in the bed, drill a hole through the floor, and have the line drain into the stock fuel tank.

I guess that WOULD increase fuel capacity, but I don't THINK I will be trying that idea!
