Buying a new F250
The dealers in my area seem interested in moving their 250s. Some even offer $8000 off MSRP. I haven't really talked to any of them yet. I guess they want to move them off the lot since the '05s will be on the lots soon, and I think they're supposed to sport the look of the 04 150s. Is that right?
Anyway, rather than taking $8000 off MSRP I was wondering if a better price target would be to take invoice and subtract the $2500 cash back that Ford is offering on the 250s in this area, and also netting out some part of the holdback (both "regular" holdback but some of the "blue oval" holdback). I'm not certain how "sacred" holdback is to a dealer. Anyway, from that number I would add back in in a "reasonable" profit, say 3%. What is a reasonable profit, and what do you think of trying to barter holdback?
Sorry if I seem so miserly, but every penny counts! Thank you for your comments.

My 2003 F250 CrewCab 4x4 6.0L PSD's MSRP was $44,140. I paid $38,611 for a difference of $5529. I believe it was about $250 below invoice. In addition I received $4250 cash back which was $3000 cash back, $750 military discount, and $500 for financing through Ford (which I didn't but they gave it to me anyway). I also got a good trade on my '99 F150. It was a leftover sice the 2004's were already out. Holdback is a tricky thing since it's paid to the dealership by Ford to cover the interest on their inventory. If the vehicle has been on the lot for more than 3 months the holdback is gone. If you can wait till the 2005's are on the lot the deals may be even better.

I just bought one last month. Sticker was 48,300 and I bought the truck for 41,200. That was before Rebates also. I had the truck transferred in so I asked that they take the holdback out of the price. They agreed and dropped the price 1200 dollars or so. I love the truck and was satisfied with the price in the end also. Good luck with the search. GS
